A friend of mine went into walmart to pick up some more ammo before heading to the range today. He is 20 and went in with his 16 year old brother. They were picking up rifle ammo, but when they went to pay for it they asked for his ID AND his brothers. His brother didn't have ID on him so they refused to sell my friend ammo because his BROTHER wasn't 18. My friend left and on the way out started talking to another customer who told him the same thing had happened to him the week before. This customer said he went up to the manager, never got an explanation of why she wouldn't sell the ammo, but was told the employee had the right to refuse service.
Anyone else ever hear anything like this, or have any ideas of why they would do this?

some places wont sell ammo to customers if there with someone under the age of 18. if they will not sell to anyone under 18 then they might not sell to you if your with someone that is under 18

Sounds like standard safety store procedures. No id no ammo.

I've worked for wal-mart before... I was never told any rule like that about ammo. Next time just go in and get the ammo by yourself.

You can get the same treatment in a liquor store. I went to by something and my daughter was with me, and they did not want to sell to me. Just have minors stand away when you go is all I can suggest.

Just tell the 'bro to hang back or stay in the car. Problem solved.

Prettty much what I was thinking. If you yourself are on the young side of life and you take a minor in there with you to buy ammo it throws up a red flag. Not saying it's right but apparantly the counter person has the right to not sell you ammo if he's not comfortable with doing so. Sounds to me like a lesson learned nothing more, and certainly nothing to get to upset about.

I agree just have them wait elsewhere get your ammo and go. You know what to expect now so there shouldn't be a problem anymore.
