Dollar for dollar I have decided that the PT1911 offers the most bang for the buck in the area of features. I have no idea about quality.

Can anyone give me feedback in regard to a pro or con statement about the reliability of the PT1911?

They have a reputation for being somewhat hit and miss as far as their quality.

Some people have them, have had good luck with them, and will swear by them.

Some people have had issues with them, and swear at them.

My own experience with them--I've never owned one, but have two friends that own/owned them. One of them is 100% reliable, runs great, is accurate, and a good pistol. The other...not so good; despite various mags, and a trip back to Taurus (and an adventure down the rabbit hole of Taurus's abysmal customer service), the pistol never ran reliably, and was promptly sold.

The only experience I have had with Taurus is I bought a revolver for my Dad about 15 years ago. It worked fine and no problems. I always thought they were a South American Smith & Wesson. They look good and if I knew I was going to get one of the good ones, I would get one myself. It seams like you hear good and bad about all of them, Kimbers, Colts, Sigs, Rock Islands, yes even Springfields.

I've handled & shot a PT1911, but never owned one... (I have however, owned 2 other Taurus pistols, and a Taurus revolver.)

    my brutally honest opinion?

it'd make a fine range gun, but I'd never trust my life to ANY recent production Taurus, 1911 or otherwise...

The safety will fall off at some point in time. That is the only bad thing I can say about them.

Mine is a great gun. I only wish they had used a standard dovetail.

Go to the Taurusarmed.net forum and register. You don't get to see the complaint section unless you register. It's an eye opener.

I've got a Tracker 357. It's been back twice for repair, brand new out of the box. If the folks who work the revolver production line work over on the pistol line, I'd think two or three times.

My Taurus is now SAFE for a range gun, I'd never trust it for self defense.

That was an issue with the early models with straight 8 sights

I'm the grateful owner of five 1911s (clockwise from top left: Colt Series 80 Mk IV, Colt Commander LW, Ithaca M1911A1, Dan Wesson Pointman 7, Taurus PT1911AR SS):

My experience with this Taurus (the only Taurus weapon I own) has been great. No issues, none, zero, nada.... since Day 1. It has never had any malfunction, and has just operated more and more smoothly as the number of rounds fired through it has gone up. My DW PM7 is more touchy with regard to ammo, same for the Colt Commander. In my hands the Taurus will group tighter than either of my Colts and the Ithaca (no surprise here... WWII vet) and just about as tightly as my PM7.

Take my experience with a grain of salt, as my sample size is only one, but I would not hesitate to buy another Taurus 1911... not so sure about any other Taurus though.

I love the number of people that say the 1911 by taurus is junk and they have never shot one.... Have they ever had a problem? yes. But take a look at every 1911 forum and there is always a help needed post that states- I went to the range today and had several ftf's or fte's. ETC...... At what round count do you say ? " this pistol is reliable and I would bet my life on it " I have reached over 1,000 rounds with no failure.. Others have 5,000 - 10,000 with no problems. Kind of makes you wonder? Where would you draw the line with your pistol? I drew mine at 500 and carry mine with complete trust. Why would I if someone asked- because it has never failed in any way- thats why I trust it... Kind of like my XD's... Everytime I pull the trigger it goes bang and places the bullet right where I want it to go... As the poster said above... Take my experience with a grain of salt as well....;)

this happened to one of the PD guys 2 weeks ago. he put about 100 rounds through his out at the range and something came out causing his safety and grip safety to fall off.

I have a taurus 357 revolver thats tip top. I also rented the pt yesterday at the range and ran about 100rnds of blazer thru it. The gun was flawless and an absolute pleasure to shoot. When the funds come in this has moved up on my get list.

I'm afraid to buy a taurus here in PHIlippines, although it's popular here in our country because of it's cheap price...there's so many complaint regarding this pistol,a defect pistol out of the box,or sometimes, after a few rounds fired some parts are broken like locking block or firing pin block...and once bought it,and somethings broken, your on your own,you have to find a good gun smith, because gun store here in our country give only 1 month warranty...then no return,no exchange...I'm a newbie, and made a research w/c pistol is good enough for self protection and yet in reasonably price, that's why I decided to get an XD-40 service...and man,I love this gun...I have no regrets,I was very happy,I did not make a wrong descision...
