I am planning a trip to a neighboring state for a prairie dog shoot in a few weeks. Unfortunately, I will have to leave late and stay in a hotel on my way.

Obviously, I will have a rifle with me.

My question to the rest of the posters is what to do with my gun.

Do I take it in my room without telling the hotel???

I would rather not leave it in the car...

    Thoughts????

Take it in the hotel room with you. It's none of the nobody's business and you probably won't be the only one with a gun in your room.

I took a shotgun (in a case) with me into a hotel. Most dont let you do that, but just dont tell them about it. If they find out, just play dumb.

It is not illegal to take your gun into a hotel room. Once you stay in a hotel room, it has the same rights as any residence (house, apartment, trailer, etc.) You can tell them your are an out of town hunter, a lot of hotels will be use to this. If it is against their policy to allow it, they have NO legal recourse.

Don't believe me? Search warrants are required to search hotels even if the manager/owner says its OK, just like a landlord to an apartment.

If your only there one night, don't tell them, more than one, they might not allow you to stay the next night.

I always have my firearm with me when I'm in a Hotel. I don't see why you would tell them anything.

I don't leave it in the room when I'm not in the room, I don't want housekeeping to come in the room and freek out about my firearm, mishandle it, or steal it.

Both my XD's are with me when im on the road. the .40 sc for carrying, the .45 tac for in the room. im on the road for many weeks at a time so i bring enough gun.

If its not illegal in that state, then don't worry about it. In Florida, castle doctrine actually extends to a hotel room if you're the one staying in there - its considered your home at that point. I also don't think hotel owners can do legally-binding policies against firearms, although I'm sure they still reserve the right to ask you to leave for whatever reason.

Never stay in a hotel room without a gun.

In fact, I think you should patrol the hallway.

Just carry it in like luggage.

Myself and three other hunters did it in Santa Barbara, CA with no issues.
