    Good day,

My wife has given me "permission" to spend some of my bonus money on a new rifle I'm interested in. I'd really like an M1A. I'm looking at the new SOCOM 16 CQB.

    My questions:
Can this be fitted with a suppressor? If so, what kind?
Is this an ideal rifle for closer range - sub 300 yards or so. I don't need a sniper rifle as I have a Winchester Model 70 SA Bolt-Action with a Weaver 40mm scope

Thoughts? Is another M1A suited for a suppressor? We are looking for a house and I'd like to build a 300 yd range in the backyard, so don't want the noise this puppy makes! My Model 70 is loud enough! That will be my next to see if I can add a suppressor - although the barrel is not threaded.

    thank you,
    Michael J.

none of them are well suited for suppressors. you will need to install a suppressor normalized gas plug to bleed off the excess pressure. Chad over at IV8888 suppressed his M1a but said he needed to do some pretty heavy modifications to the gas system for it to work.

:( Oh well...maybe I should like at something else then. I have other models I'm thinking about, like:
    REMINGTON 750 WOODMASTER 308 CARBINE
    BAR Mark II Safari 031001218
    BAR ShorTrac Oil Finish 031534218
    BAR ShortTrac Hog Stalker 031330218
    Benelli R1 in .308 - oops, doesn't look like it comes in .308 :(

    thank you,
    Michael J.

    Lucky guy.

My wife woke me up this morning with a phone call that a tow truck was on it's way with her car and I needed to sign when they got here.

that spec m1? it looks like a reflex can that weighs nearly 30 oz... and you need barrel in order to slip it on. ...barrel you wont have with a 16". i wouldn't buy it, even if i had barrel. if i were to buy one i'd buy an RSTA from Griffin.

Bolt action would be a little more quiet.

Not much more quiet, but a little.

Any reason why the only caliber you are considering is 308? Lots of other calibers out there that are sub-300 yard capable and better suited for suppression.

Mainly because I already have .308. I'm trying not to add another caliber to my list :)

    I'm open to recommendations though!

    thank you,
    Michael J.
