ATTENTION

3.3 XD-S™ SAFETY RECALL

Issued August 28, 2013
Technical Background Get Started Contact Us Springfield-Armory.com
Springfield Armory® is initiating this voluntary safety recall to upgrade 3.3 XD-S™ 9mm and 3.3 XD-S™ .45ACP pistols with new components, which eliminate the possibility of a potentially dangerous condition. We want to emphasize that no injuries have been reported to date.

Springfield has determined that under exceptionally rare circumstances, some 3.3 XD-S™ 9mm and .45ACP caliber pistols could experience an unintended discharge during the loading process when the slide is released, or could experience a double-fire when the trigger is pulled once. The chance of these conditions existing is exceptionally rare, but if they happen, serious injury or death could occur.

What should you do?
STOP USING YOUR 3.3 XD-S™ 9mm or .45ACP PISTOL AND CAREFULLY UNLOAD IT!

To begin the upgrade process and for fastest response, click on the Get Started link at the top of the page. On that page enter your serial number and click Next. If your pistol is subject to this recall, you will need to provide your name, address, phone number, and email address. The serial number is located on the frame beneath the dust cover (accessory rail). If you prefer, you may initiate the upgrade process by calling 800-680-6866. If you no longer own the 3.3 XD-S™ 9mm or .45ACP pistol, please advise Springfield of the current owner.

XD-S Serial Number

This Safety Recall does not apply to any XD® or XD(M)® pistols.

What will Springfield do?
Springfield will send you a return authorization and mailing label, allowing you to return your 3.3 XD-S™ 9mm or .45ACP pistol to Springfield at no cost to you. Springfield will upgrade your 3.3 XD-S™ 9mm or .45ACP pistol with the new components, and return it to you. Springfield will provide tracking numbers so you can monitor the receipt and return of your upgrades.

They didn't provide instructions other than packing and shipping

Sent from my LG-E980 using Tapatalk 4
It was on the page after you got the link to the fedex label after entering your information, and it clearly stated;

Please do not send us the magazines or accessories that go with your XD-S™ pistol.

And some other information that is pretty important;

Do Not Use a FedEx Drop Box!
FedEx cannot ship firearms left in drop boxes, so your return must be taken to a
staffed FedEx location for shipment.

Well folks mine is heading back.. Pisses me off, but what can you do. If it doesn't suite me when it comes back I'll trade it off and but something else. I use it as my bedside pistol, so I'll need to switch something around or buy ans replacement.. Such is life.. Ron

Even though my XDs has been flawless for almost 1300 rounds, I think I'll go ahead and send it in anyways.

Does anyone know what parts Springfield is going to replace? I really don't feel like taking out the PRP stuff.
Same here...

Can someone who has called/will call the 1-800 number confirm if aftermarket accessories should be removed? as in should we expect to get our equipment back or will we get another one off the shelf that is ready to go?
Why does no one read the information provided by Springfield and just assume the worst. On the page after you entered your info, it gave a link to the fedex label;

  • and said to send just the gun, no magazine or accessories,
  • take it to a staffed fedex center
and;

  • We are sorry about the inconvenience; your safety is our utmost concern. We will return your firearm as quickly as possible.

Is it just me or did the Glockophiles have a mass orgasm on themselves over this?

Like most everyone else I'm bummed that this has happened. I got mine about 3 weeks ago. I haven't been able to shoot it yet either. Not sure where mine stands as of yet, but if it falls in the recall, I'm not sure what I'll do. I bought it on a whim, and really don't need it per say, but I liked it. I may just see if my LGS will buy it back, & I may get something else. He's a good friend so he'll work with me. Either way I'm glad that SA is going to fix'em, but it still stinks, and to be honest it's a big let down. Oh well, that's life, anything man made can fail, and have problems. I at least hope they chip in a mag for the trouble. ;)
I'd see if he'd buy it back. If I could I would. Mines getting sold as soon as it gets back.
