ATTENTION

3.3 XD-S™ SAFETY RECALL

Issued August 28, 2013
Technical Background Get Started Contact Us Springfield-Armory.com
Springfield Armory® is initiating this voluntary safety recall to upgrade 3.3 XD-S™ 9mm and 3.3 XD-S™ .45ACP pistols with new components, which eliminate the possibility of a potentially dangerous condition. We want to emphasize that no injuries have been reported to date.

Springfield has determined that under exceptionally rare circumstances, some 3.3 XD-S™ 9mm and .45ACP caliber pistols could experience an unintended discharge during the loading process when the slide is released, or could experience a double-fire when the trigger is pulled once. The chance of these conditions existing is exceptionally rare, but if they happen, serious injury or death could occur.

What should you do?
STOP USING YOUR 3.3 XD-S™ 9mm or .45ACP PISTOL AND CAREFULLY UNLOAD IT!

To begin the upgrade process and for fastest response, click on the Get Started link at the top of the page. On that page enter your serial number and click Next. If your pistol is subject to this recall, you will need to provide your name, address, phone number, and email address. The serial number is located on the frame beneath the dust cover (accessory rail). If you prefer, you may initiate the upgrade process by calling 800-680-6866. If you no longer own the 3.3 XD-S™ 9mm or .45ACP pistol, please advise Springfield of the current owner.

XD-S Serial Number

What pistols are involved?
This Safety Recall applies only to:
Springfield 3.3 XD-S™ 9mm pistols - serial numbers between XS900000 and XS938700
Springfield 3.3 XD-S™ .45ACP pistols - serial numbers between XS500000 and XS686300.

This Safety Recall does not apply to any XD® or XD(M)® pistols.

What will Springfield do?
Springfield will send you a return authorization and mailing label, allowing you to return your 3.3 XD-S™ 9mm or .45ACP pistol to Springfield at no cost to you. Springfield will upgrade your 3.3 XD-S™ 9mm or .45ACP pistol with the new components, and return it to you. Springfield will provide tracking numbers so you can monitor the receipt and return of your upgrades.

 Let the bashing begin.
Right?! SA determined that it is exceptionally rare, but I am still sending mine in. I swear as soon as there is a "recall" everyone flips. Last I checked everyone flipped out about Glock reliability and the Gen 4 springs. Glock fixed it and it no longer has been an issue. I don't see people not recommending Gen 4's anymore because of the old issue.

Guys, let SA fix the problem, and if after you receive, you don't like it, get rid of it. No one is stopping you. Just don't bash a product because of a recall. I mean even the Shield has a recall.

My question is what does this mean for person's who bought this firearm being via Single Shot Exemption in California. I am SSE'ing this gun now should be picking it up saturday night and wont be able to send it in if I am the only one who can pick it up from the FFL. Well this sucks calling them tomorrow to see what can be done. Maybe i can have them send me the parts and i get a local gunsmith to install or I install myself.
I guess the fact that at SOME point the pistol may need service didn't factor into just needing to own a pistol not on the Kommie-fornia approved list? (Just messing with ya)
Looks like a call to the shop that's doing the conversion is in order. Hopefully your serial number isn't on the list.

I'm not bashing the company, just pointing out the facts. U wouldn't carry a gun with fte or ftf why would u carry something recalled? Sa is great for doing it before it actually caused deaths, but that doesn't mean I'd carry a recalled gun, which if I can't carry a gun I only enjoy for carrying who would I have kept it. Never had a problem with mine when I had it but if I still owned it I'd be selling now anyway. Hate all u want but it's my opinion on a gun recall.

Even worse in MA, it's not on the compliant list.

So we shall see...

Question:

On all my XD's you cannot rack the slide unless the grip safety is depressed. However, on my XDs, the slide can be racked without the grip safety being depressed.

I showed this to the gunsmith at the LGS store, and he says he didn't think that was right, but went and pulled another from the safe (holding for a customer) and it also could be racked without depressing the grip safety.

Can you rack yours without depressing the grip safety? Could this be a symptom?

Like most everyone else I'm bummed that this has happened. I got mine about 3 weeks ago. I haven't been able to shoot it yet either. Not sure where mine stands as of yet, but if it falls in the recall, I'm not sure what I'll do. I bought it on a whim, and really don't need it per say, but I liked it. I may just see if my LGS will buy it back, & I may get something else. He's a good friend so he'll work with me. Either way I'm glad that SA is going to fix'em, but it still stinks, and to be honest it's a big let down. Oh well, that's life, anything man made can fail, and have problems. I at least hope they chip in a mag for the trouble. ;)

Mine is in the recall, although I have never ever had a single issue, it is headed back to be fixed. Then I will gladly carry it again. Recall or not still one of my favorite carry weapons. I have been through two other recalls in the past. A Glock many years ago, and my beloved Weatherby rifle. I still use the rifle yearly. The issue with the XDs is rare but they want to be proactive and just replace all in the range that could have been affected.

I may hold off for a few months (6-12) before I try to send mine in.
there is sure to be a log jam with a long turn around time.
They may also modify the affected SN's based on what they find from the initial inspections.
I'm in no rush. I have no CCW here in Kalifornia, and have the time to, if needed, send it to them before my move to Texas.

The Glock fanboys must be orgasmic.

Look at it this way... your pistols are going to be thoroughly inspected before they send them back to the owners... while NEW pistols coming off the line only gets a quick functionality test fire.
Kinda treat it like a Refurbished item. I have bought many refurbs through the years (PCs, Pneumatic tools and pistols that the owner no longer trusted) and have not had a problem with any of them.

If I could afford to, I'd gladly buy y'all's at a refurb price.

WOW, First time I had a firearm in a recall....

Now owing the XDs45 for sometime the only minior issue ive had was a stiff trigger, thus I installed the PRP trigger kit.

Well let see if mine is the recall......

Mine is in that sn range. Bought July 2012. Wonder if that range is the early production. Ah well, I'm a mechanical engineer so have learned that sheet happens. Gotta decide back to BHP, XD or 1911. I've ccw each but they all seem so big now
