3.3 XD-S SAFETY RECALL
Issued August 28, 2013
Technical Background Get Started Contact Us Springfield-Armory.com
Springfield Armory® is initiating this voluntary safety recall to upgrade 3.3 XD-S 9mm and 3.3 XD-S .45ACP pistols with new components, which eliminate the possibility of a potentially dangerous condition. We want to emphasize that no injuries have been reported to date.
Springfield has determined that under exceptionally rare circumstances, some 3.3 XD-S 9mm and .45ACP caliber pistols could experience an unintended discharge during the loading process when the slide is released, or could experience a double-fire when the trigger is pulled once. The chance of these conditions existing is exceptionally rare, but if they happen, serious injury or death could occur.
What should you do?
STOP USING YOUR 3.3 XD-S 9mm or .45ACP PISTOL AND CAREFULLY UNLOAD IT!
To begin the upgrade process and for fastest response, click on the Get Started link at the top of the page. On that page enter your serial number and click Next. If your pistol is subject to this recall, you will need to provide your name, address, phone number, and email address. The serial number is located on the frame beneath the dust cover (accessory rail). If you prefer, you may initiate the upgrade process by calling 800-680-6866. If you no longer own the 3.3 XD-S 9mm or .45ACP pistol, please advise Springfield of the current owner.
XD-S Serial Number
What pistols are involved?

Springfield 3.3 XD-S .45ACP pistols - serial numbers between XS500000 and XS686300.
This Safety Recall does not apply to any XD® or XD(M)® pistols.
What will Springfield do?
Springfield will send you a return authorization and mailing label, allowing you to return your 3.3 XD-S 9mm or .45ACP pistol to Springfield at no cost to you. Springfield will upgrade your 3.3 XD-S 9mm or .45ACP pistol with the new components, and return it to you. Springfield will provide tracking numbers so you can monitor the receipt and return of your upgrades.

Just got off the phone with Springfield. This is apparently as a result of the story related on this site of multiple rounds fired for no apparent reason. Grip safety issue. Only the one case but Springfield is taking no chances. I'm now at at 1,968 rounds thru my XDs9 and no failures of any kind. Springfield is a standup company and I'm gladly sending it back to get this squared away ASAP.
I was gonna say that it pretty much corroborates the mishap of a Month ago.
Interesting that they are issuing a full scale Safety Alert from one mishap, but better to be safe than sorry.
Looks like S&W isn't the only company issuing Alerts this month, eh?
WOW! This really SUCKS! And now they can't even get the web site working. They NEED to do something other than just fix the problem. This is PISS POOR Quality control, and a major inconvenience for all of us that put so much trust and hard earned money into. Not to mention we will now be without something that was desgined for self protection!
As much as I hate to say it, if I need to find something else to replace it for a month or longer, I may be able to find something to replace it for good, and I was a BIG BIG FAN.
Sounds like with the limited availability of info we really don't know what the problem is, how many guns are involved in the recall, or how long this will really take to fix I can see this takeing a very very long time to get resolved.
As far as SA being a standup company and takeing care of the problem, I don't really see where they had a choice, given the potential liability issues today. Honestly, I can't see how something like this got out the door.
It is a DAMM shame because I have god knows how many rounds thru 45 and 9, without any issues, and it feels and shoots so damm nice, BUT I just don't know if I will ever feel the same way about it. Kinda like a Super model girlfriend that screws around on ya. You know you should dump it, but DAMM, she's SO FINE!
A lot of newbies replying to this thread. I'm not sending in my XDs right away...I'll wait til the back log gets taken care of as I have a feeling the mass will try to send it in ASAP and that will cause possible delay.
Last time I did a recall it was on my Toyota FJ...was told 2 hours from members of the FJ forum and my recall took nearly a day and I had to wait when I got back to the dealership.

So you two are gun designers, know what the problem is, foresaw the problem, and still bought the pistol?
I have 3 XD(s)'s under my roof, all apparently going back. Every manufacturer has a problem at some point. Every recall is the result of a problem you didn't see coming.
With as much chest thumping going on in here about how PO'd everyone is, I may just buy up a bunch of these wonderful pistols at discount prices to give out as Christmas gifts, should be plenty of "untrustable" examples available for cheap.
Ah yes good old American over reaction drama. Geesh the company has stepped up and done the right thing to AVOID any mishaps. Crap happens. Happens with cars happens with planes happens with household appliances happens with anything we buy and certainly anything with moving parts. Violently moving parts at that! why should we think firearms are exempt from possible (possible) design or parts flaws? I say to the "pissed off camp" step aside. There are 100 others waiting in line for a new xds this will expedite the wait. I love my XDM 9mm and I can't wait to get my new xds 45 that ironically, I ordered less than 24 hrs before this recall went out from PSA for $499! Not sure what will happen with that order.
Thank you SA for an outstanding product. Thank you SA for stepping up and looking out for your customers.

I would gladly give this pistol back if they were to refund my entry fee. Are you willing to give me my $600? didnt think so. No drama just expect more from a firearm.

I have thousands of rounds down pipe of mine. Never had an issues. The good thing is that it's already loaded and if I get a double fire then it's a free double tap.
I will join the few and wait to see what they find. Mine is 528xxx. The good thing is the weather is going to to start cooling off so I can carry a 1911 and possibly send this in over the winter.
Looks like mine is going back. May will tell them to give me Something else since its not a trusty even though had zero issues. I love mine but now its like I can't trust it since its my EDC pistol. Oh well. I have XDm 9mm I can carry for a while and send it in after all the logjam. Oh well...ain't gonna whine or complain, it happens to every company we know about that recalls their products back to the assembly line. Won't be the first and won't be the last...
Buy it. Sweet pistol, and if SA fixes it for free, it is a win! Plus, you're still waiting for your CCW permit, so what is the hurry. On a side note, what "interview" do you need. I took my class, filled out forms, mailed them, and waited. Twelve weeks later the permit was in my hands. Did something in FL change recently?
My question is what does this mean for person's who bought this firearm being via Single Shot Exemption in California. I am SSE'ing this gun now should be picking it up saturday night and wont be able to send it in if I am the only one who can pick it up from the FFL. Well this sucks calling them tomorrow to see what can be done. Maybe i can have them send me the parts and i get a local gunsmith to install or I install myself.
We might be screwed, they might not ship to any California address regardless if it's a dealer or individual. If this is the case then I'm selling mine tomorrow and never buying another Springfield product.
I may hold off for a few months (6-12) before I try to send mine in.
there is sure to be a log jam with a long turn around time.
They may also modify the affected SN's based on what they find from the initial inspections.
I've had no issues with mine in close to 600 rounds. I want to get it serviced, but am going to wait a few months to send it in. Seems like a waste to let them hold it for 3 to 4 months.
Never had a recall and I already sold my xds but just wondering how many r going to trust it after the the recall is done? Maybe I have trust issues. None of my other guns were recalled but I'm glad I ended up selling mine because I wouldn't have kept it anyway.

RE:Christmas; Depends on what the "aftermath" pricing is like, stranger things have happened
I'll just go back to my full size XD45 to carry while the little ones are off. I won't wait, my work schedule keeps me away from home for long stretches, so I'll keep track of shipping and return dates.

I'm sure the fan boys will not provide an answer. Not a truthful one. As for me I'm not sure just yet, as I stated earlier not a good start for me with SA, but that's just me being an American and expecting more from a firearm. To the fanboys I am in the wrong.....this is totally acceptable from SA......
Will sending my gun n ruin my talon grips or my night sights? I don't want them to get damaged. I just had James install my sights, man this sucks.
