Just watched it last night and have to say it is MILES better than TFA.
TFA seemed like a corporate mish-mash but Rogue One is more like a director telling a story. The comedy was not expected, seemed more natural and was very much appreciated by this viewer.
I'd give it a 7/10 for movies in general and a 8/10 for the Star Wars series. Will watch it again when I get the BluRay if not before.

Agreed. The more I watch TFA, the more I can't stand most of the characters. Writing was bad and delivery was forced. I just cringe every time I hear Han say "My friend has some explosives". He never referred to Chewbacca as "my friend". Can't stand Finn, cant stand Poe Dameron. They were not believable in a Star Wars movie.

Yeah I thought it was odd that the Finn character had zero charisma or skills and yet was suddenly everybodys best friend in the movie, Rae ( spellin? ) was the only character I liked.

K2 in R1 was freakin hilarious lol.

I feel that Rouge One was also thrown together to fill in the gap between movies. It seems rushed to me.

i liked rogue 1, but even if the majority of the movie was awful, the last 10 minutes completely redeem it. the vader scene was absolutely badass and was about the first time on the big screen that vader has ever really earned his badass reputation he has. in the original 3 movies all we see is him walking around, stiff lightsaber fights, and like 2 force chokes. that one scene explains why he is so feared that the previous 40+ years of star wars movies completely glosses over.

So you're saying they made a movie in the strongest movie series ever, where fans are used to waiting for as much as a decade for the next movie, to fill a one year gap?
    lol
    I'm thinkin not.

I would like to see more movies within the star wars "universe" that don't necessarily have anything to do with the Skywaker family tree.

No I am saying they made a movie that fills in the gap between episode 3 and 4 in the story line. It seemed they found key topics that went unanswered and made a movie out of it. It seemed choppy and thrown together.

I agree seeing something outside of the Skywalker family is nice. I want to see a movie on how Han and Chewbacca met.

If memory serve correctly, according to previous canon, Han freed Chewie from slavery. Wookies honor life debts, so he pledged a life debt to Han. As mentioned, the Han Solo solo movie comes out in a few years, and should answer that question. Seems like Disney is breaking away from the stories/graphic novels/books that came after Return of the Jedi, so they may end up changing things quite a bit.

I thought Rogue One was pretty awesome. I also enjoyed a lot of The Force Awakens, and look forward to where they go from here.
