I'm gonna purchase my first 1911 style handgun very soon. Gonna go with a compact version so I can carry if needed. Anyone have any insight on which of these is the better choice? Let's say I can get them at the same price. I Iike the slide serrations and the grips on the Citadel a bit more and the fact that it comes with two mags. I also understand that they are both manufactures by Armscor. My dilemma is that I've seen decent reviews on the Rock Island, but haven't heard much about the Citadel. Just gonna say that these are my two options. If I had the money I would choose a Springfield, Kimber, or the likes, but I'm on a strict budget, so I just wanna hear from those who have experience with the Rock or Citadel. Thanks.

I've owned both, still have the citadel. Both were great guns for the price, but I liked and shot the citadel better.

Thanks for the response. I'm really leaning towards the Citadel right now.

I have a Rock Island 1911 Officer. I can't speak for the Citadel but the RIA is a sweet little shooter. I like it a lot.

Like the first response, I have owned both and still have the Citadel. Very similar and reliable as hell. The biggest difference is cosmetic. I like the subdued roll mark on the Citadel better. The large white billboard on the RIA is an acquired taste for sure.

Two sides of the same coin aren't they? Both manufactured by Armscor in the Philippines. I have owned several guns made by them, 2 RIA 1911s and 2 Charles Daly 1911s. All functioned perfectly, except my 9mm FS Tactical RIA broke the barrel link a few weeks ago, RIA warranty had it fixed, in and out of their shop including shipping time in 8 days.

Personally, I like the Citadel a little better for looks, the slide serrations are larger, and the roll mark on the RIA guns is fugly at best.

i have a RIA 1911 45/22 combo and all i can say it is a pretty solid gun! when purchasing your 1st 1911, make sure you check for tightness of the fit... meaning the upper and lower fits perfectly and does not rattle when you shake the pistol... i learned this the hard way when i first bought a desert eagle 1911g. a friend who has a ATI 1911 (also by armscor) told me about this and told me his didnt rattle at all... and my desert eagle did! wtf magnum research! so good thing this one store had a RIA 1911 45/22 combo... traded it in and now i am a much happier shooter... they are made in the philippines which makes me even prouder...

go with either one... i think when it comes to quality they are both the same, i guess next is cosmetics and features... skeletonized trigger? upgraded hammer? magwell?
