Hi y'all... just got the Magpul ASAP (sling attachment) that I want to mount to my AR... only prob is I don't have a spanner wrench to take off the collapsable stock. Any suggestions on alternative ways to take it off w/o mangling my AR?

    Thanks.

I guess the first question I have is: Is the castle nut staked on? Some companies sort of peen or give the castle nut a shot with a punch and "flair" the metal into the locking plate. If it is might have to invest in a spanner wrench. If not you can wrap the castle nut in tape and lightly use vice grips or something similar. Take your time and watch out for the buffer retaining pin/spring and the rear detent spring. OR use a punch to lightly tap the nut. I've seen some guys use wooden/plastic dowels in place of metal punches. And good luck

just take your gun to a gunsmith and they should have a tool and if your nice they will probably let you barrow it to loosen it up.

mine always will do stuff like that for me, has even let me take a couple tools home. but he knows me really well.

odd story i had never met him before and when i met him for the first time we talked and it turned out that he used to know my dad really well and my uncle

but just take it in and ask nicely if they will loosen it for you,

or better yet buy an ar-15 multi tool. it has pretty much anything you need on one tool

Tape, rags, and Channel locks have always worked for me.
