Vortex has really nice scopes with a really great warranty. Any of the Viper PST scopes should do well for you.

Optics Planet has a Viper PST Gen 2 5-25x50 GDP for $1,100.

I prefer the hst line over the pst all day. PST is illuminated, more expensive, and the same glass. There is a little more internal adjustment but I find that none of the extra features justify the extra cost.

My only issue with my vortex hs-t 4-16x44 ($400 in 2013) was when it stopped working. The vertical adjustment started wandering during a competition. I sent it out to have it fixed and had the scope back I less than 6 weeks. It was terrific until it wasn't.

I am going to put a swfa super sniper 3-15x44 ffp mil/mil through the paces ($700). I will have it tomorrow. There is some high dollar glass in my near future and I want to make sure I have analyzed everythinG

I also have an athlon Argos in my hand (<$400) but it is going on a .22. Glass is good, not much internal adjustment, and it is illuminated which I think is a waste of money, weight and aesthetics.

For right around $1000 you can get into a nightforce Shv but I do not think it has anything on the scopes above, other than nightforce logos, and it is $300-500 more than the rest. I also have never been sold on the nightforce reticles.

Spoke to a rep at Vortex on Tuesday that said that the Gen II PST was on backorder for 5-7 months. Found a local guy selling a Viper PST 6-24x50 FFP w/EBR-1 MOA Reticle and Warne rings for a good price. Going to look at it later today. If I pick it up, then I'd just need to get a good 20 moa rail and I can at least put some rounds through the rifle.

Nows the time to buy up the gen 1 used pst's with the 2nd gen coming out. I have the 2.5x10pst and a 4-16 hst and shnhd112 is pretty much correct, not much differance other then recticle and illumination. I do like to have illumination on my coyote gun though, comes in handy early and on night hunts.

Good thinking on the Hen 1 PST scopes.

I am also looking at getting a scope with illumination due to lower light considerations. My brother-in-law missed a deer a couple years back simply because his reticle was impossible to see against the deer in the early light.

The pst is certanitly good for that. The illumination isn't over powering either and is concise enough that you can perfectly read the numbers on the hash marks in the recticle.

Scope purchased. Got the Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50 w/EBR-1 MOA. Got a set of Medium Warne Rings as well. Now to move onto the scope base. I've had suggestions of EGW. Seems good for the price.

You will not be disappointed, that will do everything you want. I hear lots of good about the egw base and it is about a third the price of the nightforce.
