I'm looking to get a good deer rifle. I used my 30-30 Marlin lever action when I was a kid in Texas, not a bad overall gun, but limited in range and accuracy. When I got about 14, my dad let me use his Browning semi-auto 30-06. I liked it, good power and decent accuracy. I now live in PA and semi-auto is not allowed for hunting (or I'd use my AR ). This past season I used my father-in-law's .243. Not a bad gun, but I never really liked borrowing people's stuff. Long story short, I'm looking for a new rifle. Can't be semi-auto. I'm looking to keep the cost reasonable (approx. $500-600 tops) and get good accuracy. I was thinking about a lower end Remington 700? As far as caliber, I like 30-06, but was thinking a .308 would be nice since it can shoot 7.62 NATO rounds. What do you guys think?
