    Hey folks !

I'm new to this forum and new to Springfield XD's. I've got an XD service model in .40 cal. on order and I would like to know how to change the recoil spring on those.

In the next days a recoil spring kit from Wolff is coming my way with two heavier springs ( 19 and 21 lbs ) .

As the recoil spring is a captivated spring, I wonder how difficult / easy it is to get it replaced by a different one.

I'm sure that this question has been asked before on here, but I haven't had a chance to read up on that yet.

    TYIA,

    Pete

Just buy the Springer rod then you can change the spring easily (and use standard 1911 springs if I recall correctly).

BTW: I see no reason to go above about 18# on an XD .40 shooting standard factory ammo. heavier springs are for hot loads.

I think wolf makes an after market guide rod also. Is that what you are talking about by the "kit" ? If not you will need to purchase a Don's Guide rod it replaces the entire guide rod assembly.

I have a Don's guide rod with 22# spring. I love it and it shoots very accurately. I just ordered an 18# spring (which I think is the stock weight) which came in the mail today. I'm about to head to the range here in about an hour to try it out just to see what kind of a difference it may or may not make.
