Pricing and service. Honestly I have paid a little more to support local mom and pop shops that had great service, friendly environment over some retail giant that could care less and flinches every time a snowflake falls (think Dicks sporting goods)
If price is your concern, shop where you get the most for your money. That's the fundamental lesson of economics
I've had one shop who is willing to show me their actual invoice price for said trinkets....their honesty ends to keep my business. I'm willing to pay fair market to keep them in business feeding their families.
The fatal flaw is in bulk pricing. The advantage swings to big box retailers. They can buy hundreds of units as one consumer and distribute them out to various brick and mortars. Whereas the local guy buys smaller quantities and pays a higher price reducing his overall profit margin. That being said, I have not yet walked into a big box retailer and been greeted by name even after multiple visits....
Judging by your post the difference is like less than 50 bucks let's say. If they are that close I'd buy from the LGS over the BBS as I prefer to support my local businesses lest there be none any longer and we all are stuck with the wal marts of the world.
Plus the level of service at the LGS is always better than the BBS
I am heavily leaning going towards the gun shop/range. The money difference isn't a huge deal. I didn't even mention gander mountain, went there about a month ago to browse the guns, stood in front of the display for 15 min no one even walked down to see if I needed anything pretty awful service imo.
Just wants to hear some pros and cons thanks for the feedback much appreciated
Your not gone to get the same level of service at Cabel's that you can get at the LGS. Then again when it comes to service you will be dealing with SA. Give the local guy a chance by letting him know your situation you might be surprised.
Twice I have been excited to get a new gun and have it arrive screwed up. Also, by the time I pay FFL the savings isn't usually that great. As I already said before, go to mom and pop LGS whenever I can.
I've done both.. Most LGS here are WAY overpriced, then tax on top to boot...most of the salesmen are pretty dry and not over friendly anyway...That's fine as I'm really not worried about hellos' and goodbyes' when I'm buying a gun anyway...There's one guy here that offers awesome service and prices that I buy from occasionally but he usually doesn't have much stock to show and won't order for you......for me and i'll be honest, price is the key...If I can save 100 plus bucks on price and tax online, that's where i'll buy...I worry more about my family eating as well...just my honest worthless .02
My first two guns were from a LGS. I'll never go back. I went in to get an extended mag for my XDS and he told me he wouldn't sell it to me. He'd rather sell it to a new customer. Never again. I tried another LGS but they were absurdly overpriced and never had what I wanted. I now shop online or the big stores in Tampa.
Our town has exactly 1 gun shop (excluding the pawn shops), but is big enough for an Academy. I've bought from the LGS with their often poopy attitudes, but my son works at the big box where he gets 20% off so.....
Similar situation. The nearest decent sized town for years had one gun shop and the guy didn't act like he cared if you bought anything or not. Now in the last couple of years 3 more have popped up. All 3 act like they are happy to take the money.
Have not seen many new gun stores open in my area but the indoor ranges are sure starting to take off. well know that I think about it they all seem to have a few guns for sale so I guess they could be gun stores. you can not hardly get in them nowdays with all the crap that's about to go down here in Missouri.
I bought my Sig P220 and the 1911-22 from a gun store ~40 miles away from my home as there are none in my town. They've a "holier than thou" attitude, and sell at MSRP (or above). I've been back there a few times but don't care to give the my money often.
The XDs45, I bought at a gun show by private sale.
The Xds9 I bought online & used a FFL dealer to transfer.
The 80% lower...I bought off the back of a truck.
I buy most of my ammo online.
