Question for NY ccw holders, lawyers, police officers, etc.:

After reading New York State Consolidated Laws Penal
400.00, which details the firearms laws of NY, it is my understanding that my license to carry permits me to carry anywhere except schools and places prohibited under a federal or local law. In other words, the only location that New York state prohibits is schools (and the five boroughs of NYC).

    Is this correct?

Federal law prohibits all federal buildings (including the post office) and national parks. Is this correct?

Are there any other locations off limits in NY state?

I'm a resident of Monroe County. According to the County Clerk, Monroe County parks are off-limits. Anyone from Monroe County know of any additional restrictions in our county?

    Thanks for any help.

Btw, I'm asking because I finally bought a holster for my XD45 (Crossbreed Supertuck) and I would like to verify that my understanding of our laws is correct.

Sorry I dont have any help to answering your question, but where in Monroe County do you live? I lived in Holley for a few years...in Orleans County right next door.

I don't really feel comfortable giving out anything more specific than my county of residence. I'm not trying to be jerk, just cautious.

Btw, why did you leave NY? Were you following the jobs? If it weren't for the fact that all my family and in-laws live within 1.5 hours of each other, we would have left NY long ago.

Not sure man. You can check ar15.com as well. They have a hometown forum for NY and NJ and well as a legal forum.

That seems to be the general consensus. nothing is off limits. Thats probably because carry permits are so few and far between that there hasn't been a need to regulate them yet.

As an addendum, you can also sign up over here: NY Firearms Forums - Index

A bunch of the regulars here are also members over there.

Call your state attorney general's office with the question. I would not rely on what I'd read online myself. Good luck.
