As some of you know, I went so far as to testify before the committee in favor of SB92
This was the bill that would have removed Clark County's exemption from Preemption. Clark County is the only place in NV that has gun registration.

As I feared, Clark County Lobbyists cut a deal with the Committee and we will NOT be seeing this go bye-bye.
The good part is that the law will now NOT apply to visitors and LV residents will now have a whopping 72 hours to register (up from 24).

Sorry, I gave it a good shot.

you did what you could. Kudos on the effort. It does look like the tide is turning nation wide, maybe it will make it through next time.

Do they still issue the blue cards when you register your firearms? I remember that after I registered one of my hand guns (That I waited 3 days to get), I could go up to the stores on Boulder Highway and show them my blue card and walk out the same day without having to wait 3 days. If I remember correctly, the stores in LV still required a 3 day waiting period even if you had a blue card.

This was back in 1989-92 when I was stationed at Nellis.

It's from a Sci-Fi TV ad I heard on the radio, but pretty good. "Success is not always final. Defeat isn't always fatal. But courage to continue after either is the only sure thing a man has sometimes."

Sort-of applicable here. Anyways, good job for getting involved, and keep up the fight. Educate ppl until the next bill comes up, maybe you can change some minds.

I understand we'd like to have less laws telling us what we can, cant, should and shouldnt do but whats so bad about gun registering?

If they're registered, it makes it very easy to take them away.
And don't say it could never happen, because it's happened in several cities across the US already.

if something like that happens, I'm 'selling' my guns to my step dad who lives in nye county. I hate that I can't even borrow some of his firearms without having to register them in Vegas to go shooting.

I am new to handguns, and I purchased me xd40 on March 13. What do I have to do to register it and when do I have to do it by? Do I have to register my shotgun as well? Sorry for my lack of knowledge on this.

XD40Brian, I think you have 24 hours to register.

BBunin, so if I am going to visit Las Vegas for a week in June do I need to register any handgun I may bring? I called LVMPD a couple days ago and they said "yes." Does this change that answer now?

    Thanks.

Wow, I have had my gun for over a month now. I wonder what happens to me since I didnt register it.

Unless that is what the blue card given to me when I purchased the handgun does. Sorry for my ignorance, this is my first and only handgun.

The blue card is your registration. Anytime you purchase from a dealer out here, they'll register the firearm for you. You will need to make sure you carry the blue card anytime you have the firearm with you. You do not need to register your shotgun.

otaku, If you are going to be here for more than 3 days, then you will have to register your handguns with LVMPD.

I too was at the video meeting with commitee. There was only like twelve or so people from Las Vegas at the meeting to represent us. I think I was the only one everyone didnt know. One of the items brought up by the police orgs was that there has not been a WAVE of resitance to the law. I think this is because no one gets the info out to a large segment of the of gun owners. We need just a bit more organization before we ask for the law to be changed. I was thinking if we could get petitions at the gun shops in town then that would be the start of thew WAVE of resistance we might need to show the community just does not want this any longer. Thats just one idea lets hear of any other ideas too.

Good point. I'd rather register and put up a fight later than to not be able to get them in the first place. I guess thats the viewpoint I was going for.

That is the best sig I have seen in a LONG time.:D

Are there statistics that actually show that the registration actually does something useful? Not that I would expect that it would.
