I just saw on the local news a few minutes ago that if the government shuts down Tuesday, they won't be issuing any gun permits. What does that mean? No money for background checks? I didn't know the feds issued gun permits.

Which government shutting down? Federal? State? Local? What "permits" do you mean? Federal FFL "licenses"? State-level CPL/CCW?

If no govt, we don't need no stinking permits. Works for me.

No money means no money to run the computers for the NICS check. No NICS, no guns.

total bs NCIC/David programs are not turned off, do you think that local and state police stop using NCIC because the fed is on vacation?

Exactly. They showed a list of services that would be curtailed and "Gun Permits" was one of the items listed. Er, the Federal government.

Government shutdown will halt gun permits, other services | www.krmg.com

How will a government shutdown affect you?

Here are some articles. They seem to be "best guesses." Things like visas, passports, parks, and federal gun permits could be affected. Government workers reduced to essential personnel only. As far as the generic phrase "gun permits" my best guess is FFL and BATF approved items. Possibly NICS shut down, though not a permit, it could affect all sales of guns.

Honestly, I don't see any government shutdown happening. This is just political grandstanding.

NICS will probably go down and the approval process for NFA will too.

    Yeeaaah...not true.

But even if it were, it wouldn't affect me. In Georgia you don't need a NICS check to buy a gun if you have a Weapons Carry License.

I sure hope that isn't true. I just got a job at a gun store running NICS checks. I don't want to be laid off already.

This administration will use ANYTHING to pull at the strings. Those that are retired military, drawing Social Security or any other government funds won't get paid either. You can bet your bottom dollar those on Welfare will get paid though.

    Beat me to my response:

    *Looks at TX CHL*

Nope, don't need NICS to get what I'd like. Thanks.
