New show last night on National Geographic about a squad of the Air Force pararescue. Pretty good. Real footage of both actual rescue situations, as well as sitting around waiting on calls. Also, personal interviews with members of the squad. I thought it was very well done...good job at conveying real feelings and emotions. As well as great editing during the action. I suggest you check it out. It was on last night at 10 i think.

Leave Nat'l Geo politics out of this....

If it's as good a RESTEPO it will be a big hit!

DVR'd it and watched it early this morning. I liked it--set the DVR to grab the rest of the upcoming episodes.

Watched it and loved it. I wish I could find out what that sound they have for their alarm is. It almost sounds like a ringtone I could buy. You know, before a mission it would sound like screaming or something. I was expecting there to be no alarm (just communication) or something like the uscg has. A great doc though

I liked Restrepo too. Very similar...without the swearing, and not as much fighting. Obviously these guys are trying to avoid firefights. Showed the guys in various states of emotion from screwing around during downtime, to the nitty gritty of a mission, to missing their families, and their reactions to the patients they are treating.

thanks Taylor for his thread post. i got a late post holiday email about it and missed it, but i think it is to be a 6 epi set? hope they offer a repeat of the 1st epi?

i was in the USAF and during basic training we had two guys go out for just the inital qual screening just to even go for try outs. only one guy made it. i think these guys are the USAF version of the Navy SEALs but w/o the engagement of firefighting. their whole mission is to bring the pilot back and also from what i understand, THEY are in charge too - an Airman outranks a Gen/Col/etc.

i think this is an extreme physical requirement to be a pararescue dude! that email also said they had camera's all over the place too. can't wait to see it, esp an old USAF guy seeing my boys in action.

i also knew an older guy while i was in ('78-80) that was one, retired, walked with a cane and even said he had paperwork to state that he is not req to get into another aircraft, he had waivers to go by train/bus/car/etc. he had been in two too many helo crashes in Nam - messed his back up! nice guy too, i liked him. had a knockout looking daughter too (too young though, she was still in HS).

Just do a search for Leroy Jenkins. I guess some WoW players put together a joke video a few years ago and before a player (leroy jenkins) does something really stupid he yells out "times up, lets do this. LEEROY JENKINS" Their alarm is the Leroy Jenkins part. Basically just turned into a meme over the years

    Kinda a funny video

Me and my lady just started watching this about 2 weeks ago. Recorded all the past episodes and got all caught up. Still haven't watched the Finale from last night. Glad I saw this post because it was driving us crazy trying to figure out the alarm tone. So thanks for the post.

In 2013, the National Geographic Channel aired a six part documentary series titled Inside Combat Rescue. It featured pararescuemen performing combat rescue operations based out of Kandahar Airfield in Afghanistan. The series was filmed over five weeks in 2012, during which the crew went on 130 missions and saved 108 lives. The alarm used to let PJ's know to launch for a mission is a recording of "leeeeeroy jeeennkiiiins."[citation needed]
