Colt MK IV Series 80 in 9mm...probably better than 90%.

This was the first handgun I bought after I got out of the Army in 1984 and my brother (whom I sold it to) is now willing to trade with me for it.

I figure it is worth somewhere around $800-900 and have offered him my Kahr P9 stainless and a few hundred bucks.

    Whaddya think?

I am not familiar with the Mk IV, I have seen a number of colt 1911's in 9mm. One in this condition would be worth maybe $500 - $600, unless there is some over riding rarity or collector's value.

    Cool, thanks for the info.
I am going to trade my bro a Kahr P9 in stainless (I paid $400 for it) plus a couple hundred.

Since it was my first handgun and I have been trying to buy it from him for a couple years...it'll be worth whatever I end up giving for it.

A Kahr and 200 bucks for a 9mm Series 80 Colt? Not a bad trade...I'd do it. I don't think Colt makes 9mm 1911s anymore and even when they did, a 9mm version was not all that common. Colts always have collector value...Kahrs, maybe...maybe not.

I would imagine that shooting a 9mm 1911 would be like shooting a 22 rimfire - very little recoil. I shot a 38 Super Commander once and it was very pleasant.

Thanks for the thoughts...I am thinking I'd like to keep the Kahr, so I will probably just buy an XD 9 and trade that away...he said he didn't want the cash anyway...

    Sorry. Just saw this thread.

You never said whether it was Blued Nickel or Stainless. The gun was not produced in Nickel and this would reduce the value as it was refinished.
9mm model is +5% in value for these numbers.
9mm model was discontinued in 1992.

    Blued

    100% 98% 95% 90% 80%
    $775 $650 $525 $425 $350

    Stainless

    100% 98% 95% 90% 80%
    $750 $650 $525 $440 $385

This is from the Blue Book.

Again add 5% to these numbers for 9mm.

    TKOL, thanks for the info.
It is blued and probably in the 95% area...as a matter of fact, I think he said he has only shot it five or six times in the +15 years he's had it.
I just bought an XD9 that I think I'll trade instead of the Kahr. (since I already have an HS2000)
