I'll post back with pics later tonight if I can get my camera working.

Took about 40 minutes here tonight after I clocked off and did a grip chop, and some slide radius work. Tomorrow I am going to finish off the slide radiusing and maybe try my hand at a stipple job. Then I am going to drag Ichy's ass over to the shop and he's gonna tutor me on a trigger job like he's done on his. When all is said and done, I hope Cham(Leibster) has his sights done because I'd like to stick a set on top of this thing and have Rich refinish the slide and controls for me and give it to pop's for christmas providing (a) he wants it, and (b) I don't fall absolutely in love with it.

without that pinky extention, how much shorter overall did it make the height of the gun?

same size as a sub compact 9mm, about 7/8" or so shorter. Next step is to dress up the radius job a little better on the steel. I did bump the left tube on the rear sight w/ the buffing wheel and the sights are a little odd looking since you don't see the green capsule in the middle during daytime conditions, but I think it gives more light dispersion and is easier to see at night now. I'll try to get a shot of that tomorrow night. I'm also going to improve the beveling inside the magwell, and add mag extraction thumbholes, and start on the frame radiusing and fitting.

    That looks totally awesome!

I've wondered why no one else (that I've seen) has done that, thinking that perhaps there's not enough metal in the corners to maintain strength.

It does look nice. May I ask what tool you used to work the plastic? I'm planning to do the same eventually and my main concern is smooth workmanship on the plastic and getting a proper magwell bevel w/o breaking through.

I like the slidework too, but that's a bit involved and shiny for me. Heheh

Awesome. I was wondering when someone was going to "melt" their XD. Looks good. I can't wait to see the final project. I assume you'll have it refinished after all is said and done. What color?

Wu, the plastic was cut using a 1/16" wide 2.25" dia woodruff key cutter in a bridgeport mill. I hand filed to clean up burs, but it was a nice clean cut. I used a std. utility razor to start the magwell bevel, that is getting worked on today some more.

Chup, not sure yet, but I always liked Sproles old gray subbie. Maybe something along that line or see if Rich wants to tackle a draped 2 shade gray camo job just for the cool factor. :)

Very nice I like how you "melted" the gun. Looks very good! I hope SA releases a version of this in a custom XD. I would really like to see an XD or HS2000 without the light rail done like this.
