    Hey guys,

Just wanted to show off my new rifle. Sort of an "I love me" present for passing my test for E-7.

I have been lusting for a .308 for a while, and was finally able to scrape together enough for a short M14. The SOCOM is sort of a heavy rifle as it is, but I wanted to add a red dot sight to be able to get on target quicker. I have seen people mount Eotechs and Aimpoints on these, but it is already slightly muzzle heavy, so I didn't want a bunch of extra weight on that end.

I found this Mini Red Dot made by Pride Fowler which is really light. It is in a waterproof aluminum housing, and has a 3 position switch for 'auto'/'on'/'off'. Auto will automatically adjust the brightness of the reticle depending on the ambient light of whatever it is pointed at. 'On' is the full bright setting.

I still wanted the option to switch to irons if needed, so I paired the MRD with this quick-disconnect mount from Larue (LT624) which also surrounds the sight with an aluminum housing like a mini-Eotech.

This setup weighs in at 3 oz. Since I removed the steel stripper clip guide that weighs 1.2 oz. (Wont be using it anyway) I get a red dot setup and only added 2 oz to the rifle overall. :D

    Here she is....

I just tried to remind my wife how she told me she wanted one of these. She doesn't seem to remember for some reason. I guess she won't be getting it for Christmas. :D

That looks REALLY good! I would have loved to do a set up like that on my 16 but I already had a spare Ampoint M2 so I couldn't justify getting a micro sight. I did go with the a lower La Rue mount for it then I was previously using. I'll post some pics when I get home next month!

Oh and congrats on the promotion!
