    Hello All,
I will soon be a future XDM holder. I am a current M&P 9 holder (only 2 weeks old) but I know I love the sport already.
I always wanted a firearm and finally went for it.

Now my first choice was the XDM 9 but unfortunately due to limitations did not have the choice but I must say I am happy with my M&P 9mm.

My question for you experts is the following:

How is the XDM 45 4.5inch? How does the recoil compare?
Any insight I should know between the M&P 9 and an XDM 45 4.5?

ANY AND ALL TIPS ARE APPRECIATED.

I hope and plan to be a great contributor to this forum.

Thank you in advance for the welcome .
    :p

    Hello & welcome!
Don't know about the 4.5" but have 3.8" & recoil is easily managed IMOP. Don't think you'd have a problem.

I just picked up my first 45 yesterday, XD 3.8. As soon as I can find some ammo for it locally (all wal-marts are out :( ), and can get to the range this weekend I'll report my take on the recoil vs my .40 SC. ;)

I have the XDm in both 9, and .45, 4.5", and both are easy to shoot with very manageable recoil.

I have an XD9 and XD45. Both are the 4" service models. Both have very managable recoil. There is a very noticable difference between them though. The 45 recoil wants to push straight back, and the 9 wants to flip up, and then fall right back on target. I can rapid shoot the 9 much more accurately than the 45. When taking my time, 1 shot per second, I shoot them with equal accaracy.

On a side note, the 9 is supposed to be my wifes, but she shoots my 45 much better. Go figure?

I have both a 9 and 45 XDm in 3.8, love them both, recoil is not an issue. Fun to shoot both.

I'd say it depends on if you plan to carry it or not. I carry my 4.5" in crossbreed supertuck and it's ok but I'd probably prefer the 3.8 for that. Mine is primarily a range gun though, so I like the full size.

I'd venture to say you'll be happy with either of them though...or perhaps the best decision would be both :)

    FYI, 9mm .45", 45mm would be about 1.75". :)

The .45 will have more recoil but not excessive. You will notice the difference between the two.

Hello Agalindo :) Thank you for the correction. Still new to this.

My primary use would be range , not so much carry but wouldnt mind , I guess I am just looking for the best option for my dollar .

You will be much happier with the 3.8 when it comes time to CC. ;)

Since you mention being new to this I would suggest 9mm cheaper to shoot so you get to shoot more often, you already have another 9mm so you don't have to by different ammo. Best bang for the buck.:)

Unless you reload 9mm is always cheaper to shoot than .45.

I have a ruger p89 9mm and an xdm 4.5" .45acp. Both have over 1000 rounds, and the xdm is fastly approaching 1500 rounds. Personally, I don't think the xdm kicks any more than my 9mm, at least not noticeably. If the gun is just for the range mostly, I would suggest the 4.5" model for a better sight picture. If you can shoot the m&p, you can shoot the the xdm just fine! Welcome and enjoy!
