What do you guys with mossberg 930's use? I picked up a 930spx and took it to the range. I couldn't get more than 3-4 rounds in a row without a jam. I was shooting 2 3/4" #6 shot, 1390fps stuff. I put 40 rounds through it. I think it was short cycling.

I bought some #8 shot rounds today loaded to max dram. Between that and some 3" shells I have here I'm going to beat it in to submission.

What do you guys get to cycle reliable in yours? Did you have issues when yours was brand new?

Try cycling some 2 3/4 or 3" buck shot. Full power stuff, not reduced recoil. Might need a break in period, might be a problem with the gun. Are those gas operated?

I do believe they are a gas operated action

    Yep, gas operated.

I picked up some federal classic 0 buck today too. I also have a 935 (same thing except for 3" and 3 1/2" shells) and I didn't have problems with that cycling when it was new. I hope it's just the ammo I was using. It was some cheap Remington target/game loads.

I'm heading to the range again tomorrow. I'll try the hotter loaded bird shot, some buck and some 3" pheasant loads. If that doesn't get it to cycle it's going back to mossberg.

I have put over 3K rounds through mine at this point. The only issues I have had were in the first 200 rounds trying to cycle lighter weight #6 through #8 shot dove and target loads. After shooting about fifty 2 3/4 slug loads and fifty Federal 2 3/4 00 Buck loads through it, it will now cycle anything and everything I want to shoot out of it including low recoil loads. Just give yours time for break-in and it'll run like a scalded dog.

That's great news. I hope it's the same for me. Guess I better get to breaking it in

My Mossy 930 SPX (named "Sarah" cause I got her from Alaska!) shoots whatever I feed her with.

Did you clean the gas piston and around that area...it may have some shizzle in it that needs cleaning out, especially if you bought it used.

    Just a thought.

I bought it new and thoroughly cleaned and lubed it before shooting it.

I had a lot better luck with heavier loads today. A couple minor issues but in general it's cycling pretty reliably now.

25 rounds of max dram #8 shot cycled fine. Then 10 max load buckshot also worked fine. I put another 20 rounds of the light target loads through it and had a few jams. Went back to the max dram #8 shot and that all cycled fine until the last few where I had a couple jams in a row. After 110 rounds total it could probably stand a cleaning.

My shoulder is done for a while :)

There is a guy on the "shotgun forums", his name is smitty from CT. If you go there he will give you some good info on the shotgun. He also tells everyone that gets a new 930 SPX to clean out all the packing grease in the gun and lube like normal. If you put up a ? in the shotgun forum about the Mossberg 930 SPX he will answer pretty quickly
