Several weeks ago my Mossberg 500 decided that the cartridge stop and cartridge interruptor weren't going to allow anything out of the magazine tube. So, not being real knowledgeable about the Mossberg, I took it to the gunsmith. He bent one or both parts and they worked for another 50 rounds. He has it back either going to order new parts or hopefully get Mossberg to send him new ones on warranty.

    Is this a common issue?

Actually, it is a very common issue. You can bend the cartridge stop slightly yourself, but it should be a permanent fix. Another option besides sending it back to Mossberg, is to just order new ones.

Check on mossbergowners.com and you will see that this was a common problem for a couple of years. There are photos and instructions to DIY. I thought they had fixed it by now.

Well, guess not. The gun was bought new in December. They were bent once in mid Jan. It seemed to take a dump every 50ish rounds. Maybe new parts will work better.

In the thousands of rounds through mine, never had this problem.

    It's 23 years old though.

Still waiting for the parts to come back from Mossberg. They had my gunsmith send in several parts and are slowly replacing them.

Spewing lots of 4 letter words. New extractor, feed parts and it loaded exactly 3 snap caps before failing. Gunsmith fiddled with it some and I got it to load 8 in a row.

I'll take it to the range Sunday and see if I can get it to feed 30. That's what I got before dipping into the ready loads.
