Got to vent a bit...
I recently picked up a new HK VP9, Sig 229 Extreme and a used HK P7. Luckily the HK's both came with 3 mags, but the Sig only came with 2. Spare mags for all 3 are ridiculously priced and pretty damn hard to find. Fortunately, I own quite a few Glocks and mags for ANY of them are readily available, any and everywhere, and also extremely reasonably priced.
Just sayin'.
End of rant, but still a bit frustrated. :-|
HK mags especially are a real problem. I manage to snag used Sig mags all I want at gun shows but HK mags, forget it. I bought the police model VP9 for the night sights AND a third freakin mag.
You're right about Glock mags, good quality and cheap.
I just posted in another thread regarding midway and vp9/p30 mags.
They are absolutely ridiculously hard to find. I am on every waiting list on the Internet, and have been for what seems to be months now. I honestly should have done my research on this before buying the VP9. It is a serious buzzkill, and I might have thought twice before buying it.
If I can't get mags for this VP9 within the year, I'm selling it. It's avery decent gun, but not decent enough to keep if I can't get a decent amount of mags within very reasonable time.
Oh, I probably should have let you guys know that investigating mag availability/prices is a "good thing" when you're looking at buying a new firearm...
Sorry, I don't mean to make light of your frustration.

My investigation consisted of calling Scottsdale Gun Club and asking if they had them. They said yes, and gave me a price. Figured they weren't hard to come by after that. Drive up there, and buy the VP9. Then ask for mags. "Oh, we don't have any.". I thought..well that sucks, I will just grab them online. Nope.
This is actually one of the reasons why I purchased my XDM. It came with that magazine rebate, where you get three extra mags, and an extra double mag carrier. You buy the XDM and it comes with two mags. Then you send in the form, and get three more mags in a week. I would have had to buy mags anyway, so it simply justified the cost of the gun, when compared to others on the market.
I bought a MecGar 17 round mag for the 229 (has to be a 229-1). So far it functions great, and it extends 5/8" longer than stock due to the +2. I may pick up a few more for range use. It was around $30.
The factory mags are expensive.
I probably have at least 10 mags for each Glock though , they're relatively cheap. thanks for that link @ironmike1378

Got am email from grab a gun, saying that the p30/vp9 mags were back in stock. Looks like they raised their prices too. I clicked on the link three hours after I got the email, and they were sold out.
I wasn't going to pay over 50$ for a 15 round magazine, but I looked anyway.
It is a well known issue that SIG and HK mags are pricey and not always easy to find. However...I have found that SIG factory mags DO last a very long time and replacement springs are easy to get through Wolff.
We do get spoiled with Glocks and their easy to find mags, though. Other than the 92 Beretta, there is probably no easier pistol to get mags for than the full sized 9 and 40 Glocks and that will probably never change.
Just KNOW THAT going into other pistols and weight it out to see if that is detrimental to you owning one. Knowing how well HK and SIG pistols run - I don't see it as a total deal killer.
I've had 3 HK's and have a VP9 - I'm a fan. But the mag situation is pretty bad. If I was looking to shoot competition I wouldn't use my HK and I'd be ticked.
I've never had an issue finding a SIG or an HK magazine (and I own and have owned plenty) other than the VP9/P30 9mm magazine. Not to say that some of the more uncommon magazines aren't hard to come by, but a P226 / P229 /P220 magazine or any USP magazine, they are as easy to find as any Glock mag around here.
