    Hi,

I have bought new XD9 4" recently from a local gun shop. It came with 2 magazines, but I figured I will buy one more. As it turned out, I should not have. For one thing, it seemed used (which I noticed only at home), but I really could not see anything obviously wrong with it.
However, almost every time I try to shoot with this mag, it falls out, unless I hold it with my left hand from below. Sometimes this happens on the very first shot, sometimes on the second. So far this did not happen with the other 2 magazines (the ones that came with the pistol).
Other than that the magazine does not look much different from the other 2. It is not identical -- 15 rd vs 16 rd, small holes indicating presence and number of rounds are located differently and there are fewer of them (only for 5, 10 and 15 rounds) and the D-shaped hole that accepts clip that holds magazine in its position is similar, but not exactly the same (D came from different font?). When inserted magazine clicks and stays where it supposed to stay, no reasonable amount of pull will release it. Cycling the slide with or without rounds also does not release it -- only when actual shot has been fired.

Any idea why is it doing it and how to fix it?

    Thank you.

Sounds like this is a magazine from one of the older styles (maybe a HS2k), not for sure though. One thing I DO know is I would discontinue use of this magazine in your pistol, it is a MAJOR safety hazard. I would probably try to find another mag like the two good ones you have, the 16 round mags.

Is the baseplate plastic like current XD mags?
    What is printed on it?

It is plastic, like with the other 2.

It says "Springfield Armory" and "9MM 15rd"

Well according to the OP's reply to the thread, it sounds like a SA magazine.

As the others said, I would contact Springfield & you may be pleasantly suprised when they send you a new magazine.

Springfields customer service is claimed to be Top Notch!

    Good Luck & God Bless

I would like to thank you all for helpful suggestions.
I will contact Springfield Armory with this.

I still would like to know how this can happen. Yes, I am mildly frustrated that I cannot use one of my magazines, but in addition to that I am also puzzled of why is it not working. It seem to be a very simple system: there is a hole in the magazine into which a springed lever lodges and holds it in place in the magazine well. Once the lever clicks into position, it is hard to see what can cause it to release. And yet, it does.

Compare a good working one with the 'bad' one and take measurements, etc.

I'm with the others whoe say contact SA - however I wonder if its an SA base stuck on an 'other than SA' magazine body??
