I am just beginning to think about reloading and am under a budget of $250-300 to start. I shoot .40 S&W pistol and .243 rifle. Is a Lee turret loader a good choice or should I use a single stage loader?

Have read a lot of the posts in this forum and am learning a lot from you guys, thanks a lot! :)

The turret loader will not load any thing longer then 223.

Either the loadmaster or hornady lnl or dillion would be the best for what you need.

The Lee Classic Turret will most certainly load cartridges longer than .223 Rem. I use mine often for 7.7jap and .30-06. It's a good, stout press.

The above poster may be referring to the old Lee 3-hole press and I can't comment on that one.

I think you might have to remove the auto-index rod on longer loads like .300 WIN MAG or .338 Lapua. The 4 hole Lee Turret will still load them, though.

I think the LEE Turret presses (either Deluxe or Classic) are great choices for beginner reloaders. I have been using mine for two years and love it. The Classic is a better press when doing your research.

I would prefer the LCT to any of their progressives. It will handle the 243 fine. I wouldn't want to bet on it for longer cases though.

Great press for the new reloader. i started on one and loaded 9mm, .40, and .45 until my shooting needs dictated a progressive. I still use the Classic Turret for .223 in batch mode. Easy way to get into reloading for little money.
