I'm just about to order the first parts for my build. Everything so far is from PSA, although I'll be looking around for Olive Drab furniture and a stripped lower. I've never built an AR before, but my buddy who's was an armorer when he was in the army is gonna go through it with me.

From what I've gathered all I'll need is what's below, plus a stripped lower, and furniture. Am I missing anything?

    (UPDTAED SHOPPING LIST ADDED BELOW)

I just want to make sure i'm not missing anything. I'm sure people have been over this many times, I'm just excited and want to make sure I'm not missing anything.

    Thanks in advance.

I think you are making a great choice on the optics package. I ordered my MBUS on a Monday and got the email from Palmetto about the optics package on a Friday. I missed out on that deal. At that price ($179.) it is like you are getting the MBUS for $10. Awesome deal.

That was my thought too. It seemed to good of a deal to pass up, even with the small complaints people have about the Vortex.

I've never mounted optics on an AR before, Do you know if there is there anything special that I'll need to do to get the MBUS/Red Dot/Front Sight in a perfectly straight line?

Not trying to be to technical... But you may want to read up on paralaxing lenses. Corrective / non corrective... etc.

Also your red dot is technically never going to shoot a perfectly straight line since it is not looking down the barrel.

From my general knowledge... Zero your sight @ 25 yards and it will be zeroed for 300 yards as well. Many of the optics have quick adjustments for range after your initial zero.

Hope this was helpful! I also just got my first AR recently! Blast to shoot... bloody expensive though.

Sorry about that, I should clarify.

I've read a bit about the lenses and know about the differences in POA with the red dot vs irons, I was asking about physically getting them in a straight line on top of the rifle.

On the one rifle I had with a Strikefire, the standard AR mount lined right up and provided an absolute co-witness.

Just ordered my stripped lower. Found a local guy that does transfers for 15$, instead of the 50 freakin dollars that both the LGS wanted.

I ran the numbers and here's what I came up with for totals:

Total cost OTD for a bushmaster,2 mags, and case from the LGS: $874.48

Total cost for my AR, built the way I want it, including 2 mags, a nice case, stock wrench, and a BUIS(package deal, so cheaper) = $767.05

    Saved $107.43
So that part ended up as a good deal financially. I lose a factory warranty(although I'm not sure what PSA offers) but I get the knowledge/experience of building/maintaining the gun from the ground up.

    With the $ I saved I bought:
    1000rds of .223: $109.79
So by building myself I effectively got 1000rds free with the gun.

After that I added the following, which I would have purchased no matter where I got the AR:
    Rail kit(x2) for hand gaurd.
Bipod(although this will be shared between the AR and my 10/22
Red dot optic w/ magnifier: Went with the Vortex Strikefire through PSA, would have ended up with something similar otherwise. Bought as a package deal with a BUIS, saving between 15$ and 35$ depending on where I bought a BUIS.

My original budget was 1100 for a store bought AR, not including ammo or other goodies, so now I can tell the girlfriend that I SAVED money by doing it this way :p

Once all the parts come in I'll post pics of the build.
