This is a totally noob question, I know, but is it OK to keep a gun's magazines loaded with bullets for any extended period of time?

If not, how long is OK and how long isn't it OK??

    Thanks for any help

It's fine as far as I've heard. Some say it's better to keep it one less though. So if it holds 13, place 12 in it. :)

This has been a great debate over the ages, much like the great caliber debate. I have heard from several somewhat reliable sources that storing a mag loaded will not affect the mag adversely. The thing that wears out a mag is the loading and unloading of them. Just my .02. Somebody more knowledgeable may come along and blow me out of the water with more credible information though.

    Short answer..............YES.

You will not wear out mags keeping them full. As a plus storing ammo in mags is very convienant AND gives you excuses to buy more mags :D

No. Keep assembled cartridges in the magazine.

Keep bullets in a box on your reloading bench. :D

...but just in case, I switch them out once in a while. The more mags you have the better. [IMG]

I keep mags loaded for a long time and haven't noticed any excessive wear. My oldest magazine is only 1 year old though.

As my grandfather (a retired police officer for Seattle) has always told me, "If a gun is not ready to be fired when it's called upon, the hell is it good for?"

ps, worst case scenario you buy a new mag at 25$ boo hoo.

I have several mags loaded all the time with no problems. I have heard that mag springs wear out from use not from being under constant pressure.
