I have to disagree with you on a long gun choice. While I do wish to eliminate the intruder, I certainly do not wish to kill other members of my family in the next room. Over penetration would be of great concern to me. IMHO......................

Great thought----for this reason I'd opt for a semi-auto shotgun inside the house.

The shotgun would be great and I would use that but the OP only mentioned handguns so I went with it.

If over penetration is a concern a pistol should not be used either. Do you feel comfortable shooting a pistol toward your family in the next room?

I would prefer shooting the pistol at an intruder and not a family member. I would definitely be aware where my family is in the home. SITREP, And again the OP never mentioned a long gun. Like I typed JWA "The shotgun would be great and I would use that." Had the OP mention longs guns I would have included them.

In real life 80% of shots miss the bad guy and strike something else. Anyone who counts on hitting an intruder in order to not over penetrate a wall and not hit a family member needs to reevaluate the logic (whether long gun or pistol--sheetrock walls are essentially paper thin).

As far as the OP not mentioning long guns I brought it up to provide an alternate solution. Had the OP stated long guns were not an option I'd have left it alone. People come to forums for ideas outside what they've already thought about.

I don't disagree that sheetrock sux. When I apply my laser on my S&W BG .380 I'm hitting the intruder that's a given. Now I may have to shoot him multiple times with a .380, but with my laser on and knowing where my family is in the home, the chances are slim I'm going to shoot a family member. Again SITREP. I am aware in what direction my sister's room is. Let me ask you, do you think a Shotgun or a Long Gun say an AR is in anyway safer than a .380?

Has to be a handgun, I only have a safe big enough for a handgun, nowhere to store a long gun and I do want something that I can carry occasionally too.

Since I want to carry it on the weekends, I am thinking either the 4 inch Mod2 9mm, or Rex Zero compact which is 3.85 bbl and 15+1.

I picked up the FDE 9mm Mod.2 the other day. Put 100 rounds thru it with no issues.

The trigger sits at 7.5 lbs, a bit high in my book. I'd rather see it around 5.5 or so.

Will have to change the red fiber optic to the green to see it better in lower light.

I registered for the SA mag deal.
