I'm building an AR for less than 500 dollars. Think it can be done?

I'll start by saying all of my experience with this type of weapon is military experience. So I know enough to get around. And am pretty confident I can build from piece parts or order functioning units and be happy either way. So my question is one of advice. I'd like to tap my resources here to try and see if anyone is willing to help.

Here's what I'm asking. Help me find the best possible deals. I know where I want to start; LW-15 Complete Polymer Lower [LW-15 Complete (Standard)] - $99.99 : New Frontier Armory - Firearm Sales, Transfers, and Consignment

From there I am open to ideas. I will of course supply the money and have just under 400 to spend. So lets get to shopping. I'll subscribe to this thread and just have the members that are willing to help post deals here. Lets go.

I don't need optics, not necessarily needing rails but I do prefer a flat top upper. I want a functioning rifle. Can be used or new parts as long as they're in good shape.

most uppers start around 500 don't they? even kits I have seen are round 500 and most kits don't have the charging handle or bolt included.

if you do this for 500 +/- I would be interested to see it happen.

That's the allure for me. I'll have to do a lot of hunting I'm sure. I'm really gonna try to stick to my guns and make it happen though. I'll be hitting armslist and gunbroker I'm sure.

I watched a lot of reviews on youtube, on their site. Seems pretty durable. I'm gonna try it.

Anyone know if the polymer lower is strong enough to handle the stress and strain of shooting? Definitely NOT combat strength...but should do well as a SHTF rifle....besides one boolit...and you can upgrade

Go to the website and tinker around. They've got a few stress tests on there that seem pretty tough. No necessarily the end all, but I would trust it well enough. Or enough to get it, then transfer all of the internals from it into a forged lower after a black friday deal. I'm looking at that one simply for the cost...the goal is to put together a functioning rig for under 500.

There was an article I read in this months Shot gun news (I think) about that exact topic. Building a AR for 500$ or less is very possible. just takes some work.
    Good luck.

I considered that, but the experiment is important to me too.

I just got an LW15 lower. It's pretty durable so far. The upper fit super tight.

    Look here for uppers.

    JSE Surplus

I put this AR together for about 600.

    Good luck!!!
