So I've got 500 bucks and am ichin for a new gun. I realy just want to add to the collection. I don't own a shot gun, so thats an option. I'll wait till later this year for the 1911, but nothing is out of the question.

    What are your personal opinions?

well... I just got my XD .40 for 499.00 out the door, or i have a maverick 12 gage (mossberg 500) that was about 300. Maverick is a part of mossberg, cheaper, but many interchangeable parts. I have the model 88, short, pistol grip but with the shoulder stock still, heat shield. I like it a lot, shoot clay targets with it and can't seem to miss... lol. Probably the 18 inch barrel and a shot pattern about 5 feet wide.

xdmc of course, but $500 could buy a decent tactical shotgun, build your own ar, ak with $ left over for ammo. $500 isnt goin to buy a decent 1911. i already have a decent ar and xdm so i would buy either a sig 522 or the new gsg 1911 22. you can never have too many range toys!

I'd have to suggest either a good h.d. shotgun or maybe an AK. That will also leave some $$ for ammo.

No shotgun eh? If I were you, I'd get a Mossberg 500, they you would have money left over for shells.

If I had 500 right now then a well made .357 lever action.

I like the pump for home defense... the action working is a good enough warning to any uninvited guests.

My newest purchase was an XDM .40 compact. Cost more than $500.00 especially with the night sights but if I were to purchase another gun with about $500.00 it would be a Glock 26 or 27.

I had an extra $500+ so I got an XD45 compact. You're not going to get a decent AR for 5 bones. Closer to triple that for one that is practical (weapon, optics, mags, ammo, sling, BUIS...). Either a mid-grade shotty or a damn fine pistol (XD) is what your budget has in mind.

totally depends on what you want/"need."

    1) Want a trusted home defense shotgun? Get an 870. Got mine at Big 5 for $300 for the Super Magnum, then added a Knoxx SpecOps recoil reducing stock = $110 at Cabelas and got an extended mag tube = $60.
    2) Want a concealed firearm? The XDsc's go for around $450 used in my area. (If I had $500, I'd get the new XDM40c. I'd need to sweet talk the wife to come up with the extra $100 or so needed, after tax.)
    3) Good range gun? I love the XDM9 full size (a little over $500 used, in my area). Or, get a fun little 22, like the Ruger or the BuckMark (around $225 used, locally). Shoot all day, and don't sweat the cost of ammo.
