I saw a XD mod 2 FDE .40 new in the case. I asked to see it. The gun feels great in the hand, and looks very nice. I went to sign in and looked down in the rental cabinet and there was a mod 2 in .40. I shot 100 rounds out of my G26 and decided to rent the mod 2. I'm not a .40 fan but I have to say the subcompact mod 2 is very manageable. Next week I'm going to rent the 9mm mod 2 . My next purchase will be an XD subcompact mod 2 FDE. Either 9mm or .40 The grip I can get on the gun is fantastic. It feels like it was made for my hand. The Glocks I own feel like 2X4's in my hand.
Funny you say that. I have nothing against Glocks. I REALLY wanted to like them, but could not get used to the grip at all. Like you, the Glock felt like I was holding a brick...the Mod.2 just felt "right." Like you, it felt as if it was molded for MY hand, not a "one size fits all."
This is a great thread....I feel exactly the same way. I know Glock has a great name and a great product. I went to the LGS about a month ago really wanting to like the Glock. Not that it matters, but for one, they are extremely ugly and blocky....it didn't fit in my hand right no matter if it was the 19, 26, 43.....they seem square and it appeared to be very hard to conceal IWB. Then the nice guy behind the counter showed me the Mod 2 3" sub compact 9mm, as soon as it went into my hand, I was in love!! Good luck!!
I was a die hard Glock fan until I rented 1st Gen XDsc...and thought to myself..."Nahh, there's no way I'm shooting better with this than a G19"
Years later, I decided it was time for another pistol...so my wife and I rented the Mod.2...same thoughts "No way, there's just no way I'm better with this thing...it's not a Glock"...thought it was a fluke, so we went to a different range a few weeks later and rented the Mod.2 again...and well, I shot just as consistently as the first time few years back...andddd now I own a Mod.2 9mm.
Just the other day I went to the range with a friend and he's got a H&K VP9....wonderful gun, but I'm still in love with my Mod.2. Gripezone ...sorry that's GripZone and all.
I had no significant problem concealing a baby Glock iwb (G33 sc). Not quite as easy or comfy as my.XDS but it might be slightly easier than a Mod2, which I think is a bit taller. Probably splitting hairs here...
I carry a G33 about as much as my XDS .45. No difference in concealability for me. XDS is a bit more comfortable due to it being thinner but there's not much difference to me. There's also not much difference to me in shooting Glocks and XDs. I have subcompacts, compacts and full size models of both. I like them all.
My sentiments exactly !! I can go from shooting a Glock and switch to a XD without any problems, I have both and I like both, my EDC are either the XD Mod2-SC 45acp or my G27.
I never understood why people can switch from a Walther, HK, Steyr, Beretta, or even a HiPoint and never complain about the grip angle, but as soon as they handle a Glock, EVERYTHING is wrong.
I wonder if the millions of guys who own Glocks around the world, are all idiots that enjoy gripping a 2x4...
I own several Glocks. I've never had a problem with any of of them. I like the mag price for Glocks. I especially like the capacity and reliability. I just wish I could get the comfortable grip on them I get with the XD and XDM line.
I read this tread and instantly called my parents to thank them for the great genetics. I don't have little girly hands, so I have yet to grip a gun that I can't get a good grip on, including a H&K Mark 23 I had for years.
Honestly, what does it feel like when people complain about the grip of a gun? Does it feel like you can't get your hand around it completely, can't reach the trigger the way you would like? I have heard this complaint often, but it's never made a lot of sense.
I have large hands. My problem I have with Glocks after around 200 rounds I start to feel pain at the base of my right thumb. When I grip a sig sauer or a H&K or an XD or XDM or a 1911 the web of my hand between my thumb and my index finger just seems to get a very comfortable feel and rap around the grip better. That part of my hand just seems to disappear into the grip.

Haha, I remember when I was looking for a pistol again, I was talking to this dude at work about it, he kept trying to sway me away from the Glock...grip angle, grip angle, grip angle...that's ALL he would talk about...he gave me the good ol' "If you close your eyes, and aim the Glock, and you open them...you'll notice that you're aiming higher than you should be"...he even went as far as to say that it depends on how you shake hands (Like that has something to do with it)...I kinda shut him down with..."Dude, if you can't adjust quickly to the sights of your gun, you shouldn't be shooting. I still like Glocks, I just want to try something different, and the grip angle isn't the reason...you dope"........he didn't like that.
I own two Glocks, G26 and a G30s. I will say that when I pick up a G19 it doesn't feel quite as natural in my hand as say my XDM. It does have a steeper angle and ultimately that's why I don't own one yet. That said the next pistol I buy will likely be a G19 as I'm trying to get my wife into shooting and she isn't comfortable not having a full grip on the G26 and well the XDM has an upgraded trigger and I don't feel all that comfortable with her using one with such a light trigger starting off. I need to handle a mod 2 before my final decision.
If you ever want to meet anywhere, you can check mine out all you want, sometimes it's just not the same when you're at the store...it's like they're just waiting for your instant decision. I'm in Morton Grove...
This is really interesting because I felt the same way with my old Glock 26 Gen4. It never felt right in my hand. I tried Talon grips and even a Pearce magazine extension.
No luck. I traded it on on a new Walther. The Walther feels much better but still not as good as my XDM 3.8.
I read a great post yesterday by Massad Ayoob. A guy asked the age old question which was better for S/D 9mm or .40. Massad answered this great. He felt that 9mm in JHP 155gr +p+ or Speer 124+p or Ranger 127gr +p are all great 9MM rounds and are as good as any .40 round. But the problem comes if we run into another ammo shortage. At that point any .40 JHP round is better than any standard pressure round of 9MM if +P is unavailable.
Wow, all these great comparisons on how the the mod 2 is like sliced bread. If only Glock could imprint where to grip the gun..........guess that would even the playing field? If you don't know where to grip then I guess you'll end up holding the gun all wrong and stuff.....
When that 300 lbs gorilla is bearing down on ya, or your front door kicked in from an invasion. Grip angles, grip zones, comfort, ergonomics and how it "feels" in your hand, will be the last thing on your mind.
For me, it came down to how heavy that brick gets when your carrying/ working with it all day.
I'm considering getting another pistol for the wife/home before I get my CCW... And to be honest Glock is always appealing because of weight and dependability... Plus my wife looked how the Glock 23 handled.
I don't disagree with any of the above statement, other than to correct one point. Glock does now have reversible mag release in all the gen 4 guns. Otherwise to each his own, I own both Glock and Springfield pistols and I like both.
