i have a M4 (colt 6920) and i was thinking about doing some small game hunting with it.i was wondering if the M4 is an accurate enough rifle for a magnification scope? if so...what would be a good scope for it and how powerful?
I would really appreciate some advice. thanks!

Yeah, it would be accurate enough. How much do you want to spend on this scope?

As shay has stated, price is indicative of what you'll end up with.

    However, more so, use.

How far do you plan on shooting from? What small game? Details man, details!

I would also say the rifle is most likely more accurate than the shooter.

I'd suggest Bushnell, Leupold, Nikon would all be good brands for scopes. Trijicon is making some great scopes now I hear with the Accu-point systems, but they're pretty expensive. I'd go with either Bushnell or Leupold as my personal preference and get a good 2-8 or 3-9x40 scope and you can't go wrong.

    I like a 1-4X or 1.5-5x scope on a hunting AR.

But they should be accurate enough for more magnification. My son's AR has a 3-9x on it.

Vortex has some good ones as well. Look at the Vortex Diamondback 3-9x40. 1" tube, and hold over reticle (cross between Vplex or standard crosshairs, and the mil-dot).

    Easily obtained for around $200.00

I wouldn't worry to much about whether an AR is "accurate enough" to warrant a high-powered scope. I use an 8-32X44mm Burris Signature on my RRA varmint upper. It's currently shooting under 1/2 " five-shot groups @ 100 yds. I'm pretty sure I'll get the groups down into the 2s. :)

I would suggest a Nikon Coyote. I just recently picked one up and very happy with it. Went shooting this past weekend to zero it in. Took no time with some info a guy sent me. Here is some pics of it.

I was going after a 3 shot group at 200yds but only had 2 left ( Hornady 55gr V-MAX). The BDC is SPOT ON!!! Also was shooting at a steel plate 300yds away 8-9"s in diameter shot at it 15 times hit it 14. The miss was my fault I rushed the shot. Here is a pic of the 2 shot group at 200yd

I'd throw Burris into that mix as well. All others mentioned are well suited too. I have several Burris, Leupold, and a Nikon. All good glass for the price, and Lifetime warranty on all these brands as well. Burris often runs special prices, or a package deal like a pair of binos or a cheap spotting scope with a scope purchase.

I just put a Burris FF II Tactical on my M4. Haven't sighted it in yet, but it had the options I was looking for. I opted for the 2x7. I didn't want anything huge, because I didn't want the scope to be as large as the rifle. I usually just shoot paper with it, though I may do a little coyote hunting in the near future.

I went with a 4x12x40mm Bushnell on my 16” barreled AR… but I can’t for the life of me remember the series of the Bushnell… I do know that it is the series that is just one step down from the Elite. I have been VERY happy with this scope… it’s clear & gathers light VERY well… all for less then $200… here is my varmint set-up:

And yes, a 16” chrome lined barrel is capable of shooting VERY well… sure it’s a 1” group fired @ 100-yards, but it was also fired with standard Winchester 55-grain ball ammo:

My current varmint load is Blackhills reloaded 52-garin HP’s & ½” groups @ 100-yards are common! (No pics of those targets on this CPU though…)

Amazon currently has the Bushnell Elite 3200 Tactical 5-15X40mm for $286. Great scope, with a mil-dot reticule.
