The following link contains information from the September 2002 Portland Wound Ballistics Workshop that contains information on Federal P9HST1 (124gr Tactical HST), Federal P9HST2 (147gr Tactical HST), Winchester RA9TA (127gr +P+ Ranger-T Series) and Winchester RA9TP (listed as 147gr, although I cannot find a matching Winchester catalog number) shot through a G17 and a MP5: http://le.atk.com/pdf/PortlandWoundBallisticReport1.pdf

You can view it at your leisure and draw your own conclusions. While it doesn't test the full matrix of either Federal's HST offerings or Winchester's Ranger offerings, it does offer partial comparisons under similar conditions.

The models tested from Winchester is not the Law Enforcement version of the Winchester Ranger. There IS a difference. The IWBA has tested all the rounds and the Ranger-T series is one that frequently scores extremely well.
The model numbers for the Ranger-T series are:
    RA9T
    RA9BA
    RA9115HP
    RA9124N
These are all marked as Law Enforcement specific rounds, a designation made by Winchester and these are not sold by Winchester to the public at large. The Winchester SXT you normally see on the store shelves is NOT the same stuff and is generally to be avoided.

I carry the 147 Rangers in the 9mm and 230 Rangers in .45ACP. Second choice would be Speers.

    I agree 100%.
Shoot both and let the gun decide (it may have a preference with accuracy and POA/POI).

Those are my top two picks.
