Might be bringing one of these home next week. If can work out a deal with the pawnshop. Whats some of the better SD ammo avaialbe in 10mm? Do they make the grip extensions for full size mag for the 10mm? I'm not a big glock fan cuz of the grip, doesn't feel great in my hand. I do think they are great weapons though, bought the wife a g26 not to long ago and shoot it pretty well at SD distances. I always said if i bought myself a glock it would be a 10mm.

Ive been looking at it's larger brother and been doin some research. From what I read was the win Hester silver tips are pretty good for home defense but are watered down a bit. If you want the good stuff reload or buy from swampfox or buffalo bore. Quite a few people also suggested the double tap but I also read that their posted stats are very liberal. Not sure if double tap ever made good on some of their claimed fps and whatnot.

I can only comment on the G20sf (short frame) but it is a beast. I like the SF glocks because the grip feels better to ME. BB is going to be your best bet for full house loads. My buddy traded his 29 for the 20sf and likes it a lot better. I've always said if I was gonna buy a subcompact and put extensions on all the mags, why wouldn't I just buy a compact.

    I own a G20 & G29 Carry a G26 daily. I don't believe you need ultra-high velocity for s.d. rounds...maybe for deer hunting?

I use an A&G grip sleeve with a G20 mag with the G29...works great. I also add Agrip and after market connectors to all my Glocks...yes, even my daily carry G26. I get my legal advice from real lawyers, not gunrag writer-seminar-givers.

One of the better, commercial carry rounds that isn't watered down is Winchester's 175gr Silvertip.

It has a fairly impressive track record.

Another good choice is Hornady's 180 or 200gr XTP.

My bad I thought I read somewhere that they were pretty good but not getting what the BB and swamp fox were getting in the numbers department. Scheels had boxes of them for 17 bucks when I was in there today. Cheaper then some of the more common caliber defense rounds. Im still looking pretty hard at getting a G20. Just not sure if I want to take the plunge to getting another plastic pistol or if I want to pay the prices for the 10mm ammo. Would have to be a woods gun for sure, which doesn't make much sense I guess considering I live in IL and the biggest thing i've seen out there is bambi.

That's if you choose to believe BB, et al's "pumped up" numbers.

For some reason, a lot of people aren't able to get the same info when the chrono the loads themselves.

I'll also add that energy figures are not a good way of choosing a defensive load; foot/pounds mean next to nothing in how effective a round will be.

So what are you looking for in a good s/d round in a 10mm? Do you even want a full house round for s/d? Excuse my ignorance havnt been looking into this round for very long.

All I want out of a round is 12-16" of penetration with good expansion after hitting common barriers, like clothing.

If one round can punch 14" deep, expand to .65, and do it with 400 foot pounds, and another will do it with 600...why go with the round that will also have heavier recoil? Can you tell me what those extra 200 ft/lbs will do in terminal performance?

No...I really do not believe that a full-house 10mm is necessary for defensive purposes.

All right think I get the general idea of what your saying, thanks. With that said though, is a 10mm nessacery? Is it doing anything a . 45 can't do?

With a G20, I get two more round than with a G21. 10mm shoots flatter; probably better for hunting. Doubt any better for personal s.d.

Here's a sub-6", 3-shot group that I shot @ 100 yds, off the bench, with my G29, shooting some of my reloads, certainly good enough for s.d. @ 100 yds. .

That equals a 1.5 inch group at 25 yards ... And people say you need a gun that has the word "Competition" in it to be accurate enough for competition.

LOL ... Nice shooting, Merc !!

I don't know what the multiplier is nor how to figure it, but I can attest that, as you approach 100 yds shooting targets with a handgun, every heartbeat is exaggerated and makes good groups harder to attain than at 25.

I was, frankly, surprised that I put three within six inches with a G29 @ 100 yds. Wasn't REALLY practicing for s.d.; just tried a few @ 100 yds out of curiosity about my/the G29's ability to shoot @ that distance.
