    What happens at night?

Never mind, definitely agree that we should shut down every coal, gas and nuclear plant and replace with solar and wind. We should also credit this amazing idea solely with Obama.

What I want to know is, How big of a tract of land they covered with solar panels to accomplish this? A lot of info missing that might cause this to become just an impractical if interesting accomplishment!

Did i say any of that? But it also doesnt mean you should ignore technology seriously.

This article is better. Im not sure how many panels this plant is. But all of germany has something like 1 million panels and that created 189 gigawatts in that hour.

I believe they can store any extra power it creates. I dont know if this could replace most power plants but to assist on our current grid might be feasible. especially in all the desert landscape we have.

Funny how you guys put technology down that isnt coal or oil etc. Yes solar wind etc has issues but it has gotten much much better and continues. many countries have switched. other than the cost effective part it is showing to be promising. in germany it added 2 cents to the kilowatt hour for this plant.

We have windmills in Oregon along the Columbia Gorge to assist. They clutter the tops of all the hills and are ugly.

You guys are asking way too many questions. Who cares about the technological specifics?

As Obama wants, lets go completely renewable (wind, solar and hydro). It was his idea, he won, so lets just do it. The sooner the better.

so we should never advance technology that could replace other sources of energy someday? not sure what your point is. if it gets cost effective we have lots of desert land that isnt seen or used that could produce lots of energy. I am not anti nuclear or coal but i do believe looking for alternatives that may be better for the future when it becomes feasable.

hey, great news, i just hope it isn't some bias report and telling us that that peak was made a like 1pm or HIGH NOON and then bled down to 100 watts at 7pm and then started drawing -100 watts after sundown?

but if they can 'store' AC power somewhere/somehow to get them through the night, more...wait for it...wait for it, power to them!

i like solar, it might be a legit augmentation or assist to the mean ole oil/coal sys.

You green energy people kill me. What do you think the cost of these wind mills is. You have to have a very huge amount of them make a difference.
The best thing we have here in Oregon is Hydro power with our dams. Don't need no stinking windmills

Not one power plant, but many, many on the grid. No single solar plant produces more than 354MW, and that one is in California. To produce 22 GW obvious takes more than one. If memory serves, the largest currently in German is under 100MW.

I smiled at the "equivalent to 20 nukes". A bit misleading considering how many solar plants this took.

Did someone just call me a green person. What does that even mean. I think we need more nuclear power plants does that make me green? i also think if solar can work we should use that as well. Our infrastructure sucks balls. Everything is falling apart aging. If 100 square miles or panel in the desert could power near the whole USA and it becomes cost effective some day why not do it? you guys follow Fox news and right left wing crap to much. there is a middle ground in things.

I would like to see what happens when it isn't windy and our get a few cloudy days in a row.

nuclear power is the better way to go.
Coal Is great but kinda dirty and we Have YEARS AND YEARS worth of coal.

I just think the Democrats should have it their way for a change. They are opposed to coal plants, nuclear power and natural gas.

Why not shut these plants down? What could possibly go wrong?

A majority of the American people want to transition to renewable energy, and really don't care about the specifics, so let's give them what they want.

See im not sure how many panels it took. because they said that day the total one million panels in germany hit 189 gigawatts an hour. so you are right but my point was its still impressive. and shows the future for solar is real and could work.
