I've fired the FNP-40 in the past. Thought it was allright; not wonderful, but just allright.

Anyone know if the FNX-40 is much of an improvement?

    Regards,

I have heard that the felt recoil has been reduced with the FNX9 and 40. Aside from ambi controls, FN lowered the cam so the barrel can sit lower, and changed the grip so your hand grips higher. I hope I made sense there. Oh well. I like the new grip texture and I think the sights are much improved over the FNP's.

    FNP-9 features:

    -Stainless steel slide and barrel
-Mag release button that can be reversed for left-handed shooters
    -Frame-mounted Decocker
-2 inter-changable backstraps the require a screw to be removed to replace
-16-round magazines (three included) with only a few witness holes
-Loaded chamber indicator on the side

    FNX-9 features:

    -Stainless steel slide and barrel
-Fully ambidextrious mag release (no reversing required) like on the XDm's
-Frame-mounted Decocker and Safety. CAN carry "locked and cocked"
-4 inter-changable backstraps, no screwdriver needed, held in place by spring-mounted pin
-17-round magazines (three included) with individual witness holes (17+1 capacity)
-Loaded chamber indicator on the side
-Barrel sits lower on the FNX compared to FNP
    -Grips feature improved texturing
-Frame sits lower on the shooters hand, lowering the bore-axis (barrel sits even lower to the hand)
-FNX is slightly lighter than the FNP
-Felt recoil reduced compared to the FNP
    -Better sights on the FNX

    Hope that helps. :)

Cap jack purty much summed it up lol and for me the controls on the FNX9 get in my way of standard grip im use to with XD's/glocks. i have to shift a lil left to be spot on when i shoot and be comfortable. But with lil practice its not an issue and loving the FNX being able to carried locked and cocked. Own a FNP 45 tactical in FDE and its my favorite pistol that i own, with biggest grip theres no worries about the controls getting in the way, 15 + 1 of 45 is amazing and the single action part of the trigger is uber crisp. Will probaly end up owning a FNX9 myself in the future.
Some purty good deals on the FNP's kinda like XD's compared to XDM's in my opinion its similar, both XD's and FNP's are great great firearms but the minor tweaks/upgrades that they did, make it worth the extra 100 or so to get XDM's/FNX's.

^Interesting, for me it was the other way around where I had to adjust my grip on the XDM because I was pressing the slide lock/release down by accident. :D With a little change, I am fine now.

The FNP is also being discontinued, so if anyone prefers the FNP for whatever reason, get 'em while you can if you want new. Another thing that I like on the FNX is the flat top. The rounded top on the FNP was fine, but asthetically, I just seem to like the flat to more on the FNX. As I mentioned in another FNX-related thread here, I regret selling my FNP-9 and now I am thinking of getting an FNX-9 to correct my mistake. Bitone is a must for me in this case. LOVE the bitone.

couldnt agree with you more on the bi tone cap jack its straight up sexy and the all black that FN has isnt as pretty as others like the XDM etc IMO. Just dont look as sexy, looks kinda boring. But still great pistol

Thanks for the comparison. A local shop has a used FNP in stock, $430 + tax, and he'll deal. No FNx's in the area.

I love that I can carry locked and cocked with my FNP40. That gun has surpassed all others in my house.

Not a bad price. I sold my stainless slide FNP9 for $480 in December.
