    UPDATE:
Just added this last night. I really like the looks of it but it made the rifle about twice as heavy as the wood. I think I will be keeping it this way its pretty sexy. Now I have to decide on optics... any suggestions???? what optics work best for AK? in the $300 price range or a little above.

For anyone wondering how to do this or thinking about doing this i used this tutorial Hoohaa's Furniture Refinishing and it was very helpful. I think it turned out well in the end. The only thing I would've changed is I would've bought semi gloss or satin polyurethane rather than gloss because it is a little bit shinier than i was expecting. So what do you guys think?

really? I like both but I like the fact that i have so many options to mount things on it now. That is another big reason i decided to try it. If it wasnt such a pain to change it I would just swap it out everytime i went to the range.

The polymer gear looks good, just not my thing. I dont run any accessories on my ak and a NATO stock is perfect so i dont need adjustable.
I dont know why but wood furniture is starting to grow on me, and your set just makes me like wood that much more.

    good job on the refinish.

I was thinking about dying mine green. if I thought I could get the desired effect I would probably do it. I like the flat rather than glossy because I want to toss mine around and not worry about it. I dont know that it would be what I would want so I guess I am ok with the tan on mine. lol

I have been thinking of how to do it and get what I want. I am not too how I would go about it or what it would look like. I will probably score different furniture first. so i can ruin THAT and not mine that I got so nice... lol

use a green tinted stain then just add a matte finish to it. Instead of finding new furniture to stain, find some similar colored wood and practice with that.

I bet you could get the green to turn out awesome. I would imagine it would be just as easy as the red just maybe use green and yellow dye. I would love to see that. As far as the gloss goes I like a flatter finish too i just happened to buy gloss rather than semi gloss or satin but i think satin would look really good.

dont get me wrong your red gloss furniture looks great! I know I would end up having to refinish it constantly because if I had it I know it would get scratched up.

I need something low maintenance and not shiny.

as for the green dye I have been looking into. I like a natural wood color on certain rifles. I think green would be cool but I would need to get the perfect color or I wouldn't be happy. and after the novelty of the green wears off I would be stuck with green or buying new anyway. I see AK wood kits for not too much money sometimes so... its not a big deal to score one and green that.

the more I think about it the more I kind of wanna do it.
