That gas station must not have had a no gun sign in the window. (sarcasm)

After living in Aurora, CO for 6 years while stationed at Buckley AFB, I can agree that Colfax isn't what the Denverites make it out to be. Only rick white folk are scared of Colfax... LOL!

Anyone else notice the perp by the gas pump seemed to be unfamiliar with their "gat", looking down at it while they were perpetrating their crime?

But that would be illegal in East St Louis, so I am sure you unload and lock up your weapon when you cross the river!

East St. Louis is bad, I recall driving through many times, pimps and hookers on every street corner, drug dealers right next to them. Being young and dumb we were over there going to different establishments one evening and drove right by a recent shooting and a few blocks away there were abandoned cars parked right in the middle of the streets, they looked like they had been there for months. That place is one of the worst in the nation, most of east st. louis is empty lots, run down buildings, etc. You kind of even fear that you are going to get shot driving through most the streets.

I rolled through there just one time, and that was enough. If your not from around there, should be around at all. Right! Is scary, wishing I was in an armored car.

Good luck ever catching these animals.

Every time I crossed the Mississippi, I made it a point to not stop there for anything.

I live south of st louis (in a safe subdivision) but i work all over st louis for the union electric company. I was working a few streets over from this shooting today actually on dr martin luthar king dr. Yeah its a place that makes a white boy nervous to say the least. Sometimes i have to knock on doors to have cars moved or ask them to tie up their pit bulls so i can go in their back yards. uhhh we flip a coin to see whos gonna knock or walk up to the five of them on the porch drinking at 9am. One time I had a guy answer the door with a pistol in the waist band of his sweats and i couldnt help but stare. he said "you fixin to shut my power off boy!?" I said "nope wrong house...my bad playa..i didnt really call him playa though. that wouldnt of went well. Its amazing to see the lifestyle they live. My boss carries a sig 380 in his pocket all day. Luckily I may be in a multi million dollar subdivision later that day so my job keeps it interesting.

Well said! I used to live in southern IL back in the mid to late 80's and would drive up to St. Louis occasionally. It was well known that East St. Louis was a war zone, with all kinds of vice going on. Cars left on the side of the road would be stripped in hours and burned. For awhile there were people shooting out onto I-70/64 that goes in and out of St. Louis.

I once overheard a grad student from Lebanon describing his misadventure of straying into East St. Louis. He said he felt much safer in his hometown of Beirut!

Only thing mildly unusual about the story is that it's in winter in the middle of the week.

I've been to East St. Louis, gambling at the Casino Queen.
If it got too late, we would just stay the night instead of driving over to the county in St. Louis.

I was up one night $800 playing Blackjack there.
When it got down to $600, we got a room and crashed.

There was no way I was driving back to Webster Groves, half drunk at 3 AM.;)

I used to WORK in E St Louis at the Pfizer plant making paint pigments and other mineral based products. You really have no idea ... and I would NOT suggest you try to gain 1st person experience either!
