I have the xd-40 sub, and after my last range trip my front dot on the sight was completely black from the powder. I tried everything I could think of to clean it out (toothpick and pipe cleaner) I did not have luck with either. I managed to get about half of it clean, but that isnt good enough. Any tips on a chemical or method I could use to get the sight clean :?:

I have the stock white dot dove tail sight by the way.

Pick up one of those small flame torches, about the size of a small fire extinguisher and burn the hell out of the dirt. Oh,,,,you want to be able to use the sights again for shooting..forget that and go with ubnoxous' tip. :D

A very sharp knife would suffice if you don't have qtips at hand. You might have to repaint the sights though.

I filled in the front and rear dots on my .40 V10 with Testors florescent orange. I may change the color on the front or rear at some point though.

I stood the slide on end and used a toothpick to fill the dots with paint and let dry. Repeated 3-4 times until totally filled in.

Once you think it's as clean as it can be and it still looks dull then it's time to paint it. Grab one of those paint pens in your favorite color and just fill it in!
Very easy and looks like new.

I put a little clear finger nail polish on a toothpick and filled in the dots and stuff just wipes right off now
