Would you take that trophy, once in a lifetime buck, if you had already downed a doe as you were recovering it (given legal bag limit within your state)?

May sound like a stu question, but wanted to poll the deer hunters on here, please answer, if you are an actual deer hunter. Thanks

I usually buy several licenses for deer in Iowa and have actually killed a nice buck while field cleaning a doe. Of course we are overrun with deer here so multiple tags is the norm not the exception.

I think what is meant by the post is if you only had one either sex tag and you had just downed a doe and that trophy buck appeared would you illegally take the buck........and my answer is umm.........well, you know! :)

I always buy several deer liscences when they're available. Here in michigan you can legally take (with the correct liscencing) 2 bucks - one standard (any buck with antlers 3" or longer), and one trophy (4 or more points on one side) and depending on your area - up to one doe per day for private landowners.

I've only ever taken 2 deer once in my hunting career and that was to take some freezer fodder for a sick relative who coultn come up hunting during the 2007 season. I shot a doe and a buck 10' and less than 90 seconds apart.

Would i take that trophy class animal while cleaning another deer... ABSOLUTELY.. i dont keep my gun loaded and leaning aginst the tree for nothing!

I will qualify that statement as to i would have to be able to keep with my 1:1 shot to kill ratio while deer hunting... i've already let that trophy animal walk away twice because i couldnt get a good (or safe) kill shot. I'm a proud hunter thats fired my gun 12 times in the field and taken 11 bucks and one doe.

Here in VA bag limit is 2 per day, 6 per season.

If I had a doe down and the buck walked by I'd shoot him too.

No problem with that what so ever. I'll skin them, cut them up, and throw them in the freezer.

No I was polling a 'legal' shoot.

There was a pious AH that decided to judge and flame me and called it Unethical and Poaching when I was commenting about carrying a sidearm backup while deer hunting. I didn't want to mention this and 'bias' the poll, but was curious if Anyone besides him would pass up a chance to take a 2nd deer, esp a trophy buck!

I've OC'ed my dad's Colt Mark III .357 during deer season for years. I will proudly be carrying my xd this fall and if i can get a doe inside of 30 yds... she better watch out! I hope i never have to actually use my gun against a two legged critter, but i'll happy find out what a .40 cal does to 180 lbs of whitetail ;)

Well, I'm really running out of room in the freezer with the redfish and speckled trout in it, but... hell yes, I'd take the shot.
