(wasnt sure if this was the correct area to post in)

I read a post on how to do "color fill" with finger nail polish so i gave it a shot today. Once I got into it I decided that a polished barrel would look nice as well so why not try on your first gun you've ever owned that was about $700! I thought id show you all.
I think it looks pretty good for the first try. I was a little hesitant to do all this since i just bought the gun Jan. 13th and shot it for the first time yesterday.

That does look good. I only shined my barrel.
Is that kind of a satin finish what you get when you shine the slide? I like that look. I guess you just keep it well oiled to prevent corrosion.

That looks great, nice work. Did you use a polishing wheel or by hand?

Looks great. Please share your processes for these 2 tricks or the resources you used. How do you wipe off the excess nail polish? Do you using rubbing alcohol?

I seconded this comment ^ as I want to do something to mine this week. Might try a different color but that does look sick. And what did you use to do the last photo effect?

    Great work

Thanks for the comments guys i wasnt sure how you would feel

For the color fill I used mineral spirits to wipe down the slide and a Q-tip soaked with mineral spirits to really get down in the etching. I let it dry then globbed on the cheapo black fingernail polish from walmart and let it dry for a few min when it starts to get tacky. I then used acetone free (free just to safe i guess) and applied it to a patched used for gun cleaning or a bed sheet like material (nothing to absorbant like terry cloth or microfiber) and gently wiped across the lettering. didnt push very hard and dont have cloth soaked. you dont want it to run down into etching and mess up your work. I removed excess and let set for like 15 min and did it all again.
For the barrel i started with 500 grit wet sanding by hand it a twisting motion with the barrel itself then moved to 1000,1500,2000. After it looked relatively shiny i took it over to the buffing wheel and put on a lil compound and polished it out. It wasnt perfect so i used a little rubbing polish like "mothers" and it looked alot better. Its still not as perfect as id like but ive noticed after you rack the slide it rubs the top of the barrel scrathing it somewhat,so i may have to repeat this after every gun cleaning im not sure. I applied the gun oil to the barrel hoping it will be enough lube to protect from any rust issues..i guess we will see its my first attempt. I did the same to the end of the recoil spring.
As far as the pic effect my bro-in-law did that and sent it back to me. He says just a simple photoshop effect like posterizing or something.

Very nice. Looks much better than white letters on a black slide IMO. Too bad I have a black slide or I would give this a try
