I'm wanting to do some research on what starting an indoor gun range involves.....insurance, the structure itself, startup cash etc, does anyone know of someone who owns one I could talk to and find out. There's not a range in my tri county area, and I think one would go over well.

A couple started a really nice one locally. Took 3 million to transform a roller rink into the facility it is today.

It takes millions. For a good range its like 50,000- 60,000 dollars per lane which includes ventelation. That doesnt include cost of building etc.

I wrote a business plan for my college business class about opening a bowling alley (there is relevance) and the cost averaged ~2500 per lane, not including the building and all the amenities. I think you could easily double to triple that for the lanes alone. Then you need to account for the building, the safety precautions, zoning, licenses, etc... 3 mil sounds a little high, but I am sure there are unknown to me factors involved.

I think an outdoor gun range would be a much cheaper alternative. Since you're fairly close to Lexington, have you thought about talking with the guys at Buds for any info? They have both an indoor in lex and an outdoor in paris

I checked into opening a gun range about 6 months ago with a friend. 3 million is very easily to surpass for a gun range especially if you want a good range with 100 yard rifle lanes. I was very surprised at the costs the 50,000 60,000 per lane was a quote from 2 different companies. then insurance and everything else.

I'm not familiar with Buds, 3 mil is a buzz kill...lol.....I'm dying to get out of the factory I work in, and I know a range would go over really well here, but 3 million is scary!!! I haven't checked on indoor vs outdoor yet, just getting info right now.

FYI for a bowling 'center' your number was off, it's 25K+ /lane. Pesky decimal points. I spent 20 years as a bowling coach so I do have some expertise in this.:)

Huh? Citation please. Also define 'good'. I live in the South SF Bay area and usually go to Reeds Indoor Range, nothing fancy but it does what it's suppose to do, give you a place to shoot and stops the bullets from going out of the building. I have serious doubts that the cost per lane came anywhere near what you say.:)

I did mine based on leasing an AMF bowling center, their estimation was about 2500 per lane just for floor and equipment...

Your property/setup will be a lot of money. But your insurance every month will be far more expensive.
