So i am a little confused/out of the loop. Whats the difference between brass and nylon bore brushes. I have always used the brass type and i just recently discovered the nylon type. Are they for certain parts or certain kinds of material? And second question here is whats the best cleaning solvents and lubes for firearms? I shoot any where from 500 to 1,000 rounds a month. And i live in a dry sandy and dusty environment.

I like the nylon brushes myself (Glocks come w/& recomend them). As far as cleaner & oil it's kinda a personal preff. thing you'll get 100 diff. answers from 100 diff. people. I've use Hoppes, Birches, Remignton. They all seem to work fine IMO. The biggest thing IMO is cleaning the firearm on regular basis & I clean after every range trip.

I was told that with a nylon you run no chance of scratching/scaring the barrel. I've used brass & never had a problem but have switched to nylon when the brass wore out. IMO the nylon hold their shape better & last longer.

Another reason for using nylon brushes is if you use a copper cleaner periodically to get the copper residue out of the barrel, those cleaners will ruin the brass brushes since copper is used to make brass.

How does a nylon brush scratch a barrel when a bullet flying at 1000fps does not?
