well if someone were to make (im sure someone does) a bolt action upper for an ar15 would you buy it? and im not talking about one that you just pull the charging handle im talking about a regular bolt action.

so you could use the same mags, trigger, stock.....i think it would be pretty cool and if there was one for around $300-500 i would buy one for sure. well i would if i could get a 6.5 grendel one with a 24" barrel...now that would be awesome!!!

First, yes, if someone made a high-quality, precision bolt action upper for the AR-15/AR-10 platform rifles, there may be considerable interest in them. Particularly with the rise in popularity of the 6.5 Grendel and 6.5 Creedmore cartridges, not to mention the desire for bolt guns in the old standbys like 223, 308, etc.

I think it is a good idea, but as for the price-point...I don't know that you could honestly build a bolt-action upper for either the AR-15 or the AR-10 platform that would be worth a darn for the $500 price you are considering. A good, quality 6.5 Grendel barrel is going to eat up at least $350-400 alone (AA is selling their 24" SS Match barrels for around $350...get into a Krieger, Douglass, Shilen, etc. barrel and you are talking at least around $400), and you have even gotten into the design, let alone the machining costs for the receiver, bolt, etc. and not to mention the cost of materials and labor to make a quality product.

Great idea, but I'd thing you are looking at around $650-700 minimum on the price tag and likely MORE.

    No

If I wanted a bolt action rifle, it sure wouldn't be based on the AR design.

well the reason i would want a bolt action is most of us allready have good parts (trigger and stock and mags) into our lowers and buying a bolt upper would save you from having to buy a new compleated gun with trigger stock and more mags and plus hi-cap mags are available which is more then what most bolt actions have available.

it would just be nice to be able to have 30 round mags for a bolt action rifle, well even 100 round mags if you wanted plus i really like the setup and feel of my ar15

    Okay Ranger...

I recognize the Ferrett50, the BOHICA, Tubb2k and the Bushmaster/Cobb (although the Cobb and the Tubb are not technically an AR-bolt action uppers IMO)...what the hell are the first couple pics of?!?!? Looks interesting...
