Someone will come along and post the link to the "approved" list that conforms to the FBI protocol. What I use may not work for you or your pistol yada yada, so to keep it simple I'll tell you that I use the SPEER 124 gr. +P Gold Dot. It's on the "approved" list and if it works for you and your pistol, there are few better. ;)

Any of the rounds listed below, provided they're accurate and function in YOUR pistol. I'm personally a big fan of the Federal HST's and Speer Gold Dots in 124gr +p or 147gr.

    • Barnes XPB 115gr HP (35515) such as loaded by Cor-Bon (DPX09115)
    • Winchester Partition Gold 124gr JHP (RA91P)
    • Winchester Ranger-T 124 gr +P JHP (RA9124TP)
    • Winchester Ranger Bonded 124 gr +P JHP (RA9BA)
    • Winchester Ranger-T 127gr JHP +P+ (RA9TA)
    • Winchester Ranger-T 147gr JHP (RA9T)
    • Winchester Bonded 147gr JHP (RA9B/Q4364)
    • Speer Gold Dor 124gr JHP
    • Speer Gold Dot 124gr JHP +P (53617)
    • Speer Gold Dot 147gr JHP (53619)
    • Remington Golden Saber 124 gr +P JHP bonded (GSB9MMD)
    • Remington Golden Saber 147gr JHP (GS9MMC)
    • Federal Tactical 124gr JHP (LE9T1)
    • Federal Tactical 135gr JHP +P (LE9T5)
    • Federal HST 147gr JHP (P9HST2)
    • Federal HST 124gr JHP +P (P9HST3)

Speer GD JHP 124G. Great ballistics and a pleasure to shoot. Great ammo and reliable.

I think that the Speer, Remington Golden Sabre, and Winchester choices are all great. Can't really go wrong with any of them. See which you and your gun like the best and go with that.

As to bullet weight, that also is something to choose. THAT could be a whole thread by itself!!! But yeah any if the brands I mentioned are good choices.

I like federal HST 124 grain. Double tap also makes some good stuff imo. I have a box of each on the way.

Anybody like Hornady 135 gr Flexlock +P? They group well from my gun and are devastating.

I just bought this and have yet to shoot it. I keep reading rave reviews about it on other sites, but it never seems to make the "approved" list of always see posted on here. I guess I'll just have to try it out for myself.

As a side note sgammo.com has this for sale at a reasonable price. I paid $25 for 25 at my lgs. It's less online.

I can't believe anybody would recommend Winchester... I promised myself never to shoot any from my gun. (unless there was absolutely nothing else)
But I dunno maybe their higher end ammo is better..

I would say Corbon DPX ammo is good SD/HD (currently I use Hornady Critical Defense.. only because I haven't gotten the chance to get the Corbon DPX yet)

I'm using Hornady Critical Defense as well but I didn't do a whole lot or research before my decision. I made it based on Hornady's reputation.

Its totally better then nothing, and better then just FMJ.

I actually did wonder about the expansion... I had to shot a sick deer in the head at point blank range... (entered from right about the jaw angled towards the opposite eye or ear) I gave it a little time and started to drag it and it starts kicking... so I shoot it again in the head (this time from the middle of the forehead angled a little to the right side) it was still kicking when I was dragging it...

So I'm not sure if its just the damn deer had lots of nerve reactions (we butcher sheep and one sheep was still kicking for like 5 minutes after we cut its throat, but most of them only kick for less then 30 seconds)
