I'm looking for a quality duty holster for a Springfield XD 9mm 4" service model for exposed carry security... I'm not looking to spend too much money but I would like a decent holster that's acceptable for carrying on duty.

    Safariland ALS.

    Choose your level of retention.

Buy the real thing as well. Don't save a few bucks buying an ALS knockoff.

So, Safariland ALS is the way to go? I've looked at them but am unfamiliar with the levels of retention. I have always used leather retained holsters but duty carry requires specifics.

What level are you required to have?

    Get that.

    ^ That, +1.

You're going about this backwards, Jeffy.

You need to tailor your gear to meet your duty requirements, and then you need to familiarize yourself with that gear's setup and quirks.

All of us here can chime in about what we'd each consider appropriate for duty use - but if our concept of what that "duty use" does not accurately reflect what your agency requires...well, it's stillborn right there, no? ;)

The first thing you need to do is to understand your duty requirements.

From there, work backwards to see what holsters can meet those requirements.

From there, again work backwards to re-train yourself so that you're intimately familiar with your chosen hardware.

The problem is, I work for several companies and they may all have different requirements... that said, I'm looking for something that will meet them all then I'll familurize myself with said system.

Side note: Those ALS holsters are really nice, but way too expensive... is there any options that are UNDER $100???

Just get the highest retention you are required to have.

And if you wanna go cheap in a piece of equipment that may make the difference between life & death, have at it. Everybody decides what their life is worth,..

Most security companies require at a minimum a level 2
