Beretta 92FS for $420, would you do it?

Let me get this out of the way: I'm a BIG fan of the Beretta 92-series. I carried an M9 every duty day for 6 years when I was a USAF Security Forces member. I could make that pistol dance, it never gave me a problem, and I shot expert with it consistently.

I have the opportunity to buy what I'd like to call a "well-loved" 92FS along with old night sights that need replacement, 3 mags, along with both the stock and Hogue grips for a grand total of $420. I don't even mind that it's got some "character", aka some wear on the finish that makes me believe it's a former police turn-in. Why? Because the wear on the slide is a match for being in a holster, the wear on the "beavertail" would be precisely where I'd rest my right elbow for retention purposes when making contact with folks on the job, and it has night sights.

The only hitch is where it's located: 1 3/4 hours away, each way, and the traffic is horrendous. Fortunately I drive a little econobox Civic, so the 230 mile round trip will be cheap when it comes to gas.

Keep in mind that I don't "do" safe queens. I'd actually prefer a pistol that I can get cheaper, and send off for refinishing or I can respray it myself. Heheh, project pistols kick butt!

    What do you folks think?

If your ok with the wear marks and the pistol is sound, go for it! are the mags 17 rounders or 10 rounders??

These are 13rd mags, which sounds odd to me. However, that's OK because Midway has 15rd mags in stock for the 92 right now, so that's not a deal breaker for me.

I'll give it a full going over if I get out there to see it. I'll bring my snapcaps and put it through the wringer.

I'll have to say, hell yes. I loved carrying the M9 in the CG, and if I could find a milsurp (the CG went to the P229 in 2006ish?) Model, I'd be a happy guy...

I looked at the M9 & 92FS yesterday, but new here. They are just under $600 new around me, so I think that would be a bit high for a 'well loved' gun like that. I guess it depends on your market price? What are they new in your parts?

I'd do it, but make sure it functions. That seems to be a damn good price for an original 92f

I agree...spend a little more and get a new one. WHO KNOWS how the gun was cared for...by the look of the outside it might not have been.

Me too. $420 is too much for that gun.

Tough call. IMHO Cabela's has the M9 brand new for $599 I would kick in the extra $160 and go that route. Then again I can't find a 92FS for anything near $420. Decisions decisions lol.

Jon, if you're a fan of the 92 FS and considering it's a private sell, $420 doesn't sound too bad. ;)

Back in November I paid $400 for a well used but serviceable 92G. It came with 4 mags and the original box. It had more wear than the one pictured for sure. Just the same I am very pleased with the purchase and don't feel like I was ripped off in the least. I added a D spring and some Trausch grips and love the thing.

I think that's too much for a gun in that condition. I see used ones in near perfect condition for $500 pretty regularly.
