You made the right decision on the XDs, IMO. I've had the Shield, moved to Glock 43 and should've got a the XDs from the beginning. It's trigger is slightly heavier, but the grip is better while shooting.

Funny, I thought the grip was "meh" while handling it the first few times, but not realize how much it aids in shooting.

No, The build quality of the XDS is far better than the Shield.

I would and did take shield over the XDs
    Slimmer mor concealable
    More comfortable in hand
    Better gun IMO.
Started with a 40 had it a out 3 yrs many rounds through it and never a hiccup.
Recently picked up a 45 version and so far same results over a thousand down range so far with various mfg and types of ammo and not ONE malfunction

Everyone has a differ et feel and opinion on a gun.

    Me
    I dislike glocks period
Others I am open to all but find SW firearms to be the "best fit" for me.

Both the Shield and XDS are great firearms and you can't beat the customer service you get from either company. I spent some range time with both and the ergonomics on the XDS, to me, were far superior than the Shield. Remind you that this is only my opinion and I chalk it up to the fact that I have owned my XDM40 ever since Springfield Armory first released the XDM series... so I'm used to that grip feel which is why I recently purchased my XDS 9mm.
    Congrats on the purchase!

Had a Shield, got rid of it, just didn't like it, (personal preference) was carrying a S&W 3913 but with parts so scarce was afraid to practice with it, looked at the XDS 9mm 4.0 and it is so close in size and shape to my 3913 its scary. Hasn't left my hip since. 8)

I bought the Performance Center version of the Shield in 9mm and liked the sights and trigger, and double-taps were very easy and controllable. But, it came with an improperly machined barrel. 8" groups at 25yds with a rest. Sent it back to S&W and it took 2 months to get it back with a replacement barrel. That one was also flawed but better and groups shrank a little to 6". Dumped it and bought my XDS. First time I shot it, I got 1 3/4" groups at 25yds. Yes, the trigger is worse than the Shield, the recoil of the .40 is snappier, and it is bulkier than the Shield, but, I have total confidence in my XDS to put the rounds where I want them.

Last March XDs were approved as an option as part of our toe. Rep came out and it is now my primary side arm. Year later proven and tested. You can't go wrong with this weapon.
